Fans of the popular anime series Overlord (myself included) have been quite hungry for more content since the most recent season (season 4) aired back in 2022. And while we may be looking forward to season 5, it's fair to say that many of us have forgotten about the Overlord movie that was announced in 2021.
Now, three years later and after a full season dropped in between, news and hype surrounding the previously announced Overlord movie, dubbed Overlord: The Holy Kingdom, is beginning to stir up, as a 2024 release is imminent. So let's take a quick look at everything we know so far regarding the hype and news building up for 2024's Overlord: The Holy Kingdom.
Overlord Movie Teaser Builds up Hype for Its 2024 Release
As previously mentioned, Overlord: The Holy Kingdom was announced back in 2021, and after that, no more news surrounding it surfaced. That is until about a month ago when a teaser trailer dropped on the official Kadokawa anime YouTube channel, and now a month later, Studio Madhouse posted the movie's official poster on X (formerly known as Twitter) as you can see below.
As of now, the movie's release date remains unknown, but it is scheduled to premiere in 2024 in Japan, with a probable release for the Western audience a day or two later. The film will adapt the Holy Kingdom arc from the novel co-authored by Kugane Maruyama and So-Bin, and it will showcase a voice cast that includes Satoshi Hino as Ainz Ooal Gown, Yumi Hara as Albedo, and Masayuki Katou as Demiurge.
For anime enthusiasts, it's noteworthy that Studio Madhouse, the creators of this film, has a rich portfolio, having produced other renowned movies and anime series such as Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Parasyte: The Maxim, and Death Note. This impressive track record sets high expectations for the upcoming film, and given Madhouse's history, we are confident that the movie is in capable hands.
So if you're as hyped as we are for the release of this film, then be sure to stay tuned for more news, and as soon as a release date is announced, we will be sure to update this article accordingly. And for those new to the Overlord IP or those who want to binge-watch it before the release of the film (I know I will), you can check out the first four seasons over on Crunchyroll.
