Early this month, the recent Developer Direct presentation showcased four games from talented studios, including Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. This turn-based RPG was first announced at the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2024 and is the debut gaming release for the studio, which is currently slated for release in April 2025 for consoles and PC.

Over the recent months, it has generated much excitement as it confirmed the game's English voiceover cast and provided players with their first look into its gameplay, propelling Expedition 33 to be one of the most anticipated gaming releases for 2025. As the development team drew the curtains back to revealing information and key details for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 during the Developer Direct, a new report published this week may give players more reasons to be excited about this turn-based RPG.

Sandfall Interactive spell bounded players this month during Xbox's Developer Direct presentation, which provided more in-game footage and "tantalizing" gameplay details which "hype levels among RPG enjoyers only continue to rise." From the implementation of "real-time elements" in the turn-based combat, a deep character and playstyle customization, dynamic cinematography, art design, and a "navigable world map," there's so much more to expect from the developer in the coming months or years based on a recent Variety report.

The American-based entertainment site reported that the game's developer is teaming up with production company Story Kitchen to work and produce a live-action adaptation of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. In a statement provided to Variety, Story Kitchen founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg expressed their excitement about collaborating with the developer to bring this "rich, immersive world of Expedition 33 to the big screen."

The founders of Story Kitchen continued in their shared statement adding that “The game’s compelling narrative and complex characters provide a solid foundation for a cinematic experience that will resonate with both gamers and moviegoers alike.” Guillaume Broche, CEO/Creative Director of Sandfall Interactive, added that this partnership "allows us to expand the universe of ‘Clair Obscur’ beyond the gaming realm" in which "their expertise in storytelling and passion for our vision make them the perfect team to translate our game into a captivating film.”

Interestingly, the game's English voiceover cast is pretty stacked, as confirmed by Sandfall Interactive in a developer post in October 2024, which includes a few actors who are no strangers to the world of filmmaking. Most notably, the game's protagonist Gustave is voiced by British actor Charlie Cox widely known for his role as Matt Murdock / Daredevil, The Lord of Rings star Andy Serkis, and Netflix's Sandman star Kirsty Rider all having some experience in film and television so the question remains whether they'll make that leap from voice acting to appearing in the film?
