While many expected a second Kombat Pack of DLC characters, NetherRealm Studios surprised Mortal Kombat 11 players with the announcement of a new story campaign.
Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath is the biggest update for the title since its release in April 2019, adding new characters, mechanics and a whole new story mode which follows events after the main campaign.
So what’s confirmed to be on the way with Aftermath? Here’s everything we know about the upcoming DLC.
What is included in Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath?
The base ingredients of Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath are:
- A new cinematic story campaign
- 3 new playable fighters - Sheeva, Fujin and Robocop
- 3 new skin packs to be released over time
When does the new story campaign take place?
As the title suggests, Aftermath picks up following events in Mortal Kombat 11’s story mode after Fire God Liu Kang defeats Kronika.
Alongside Raiden, it appears Liu Kang is now teaming up with evil warlock Shang Tsung to put time back on course. But can he be trusted?
An official synopsis reads: “Aftermath features a brand-new cinematic story centred around trust and deceit. Fire God Liu Kang, the new keeper of time and protector of Earthrealm, looks to secure the future he envisions.
“In order to do so, he is forced to enlist the help of some unlikely allies and familiar foes. Players will have to decide who they can trust and who they must defeat with fate on the line. Forge a new history.”
Who are the new characters and what fatalities do they have?
A glimpse at the fatalities for all the new characters can be seen in the above gameplay trailer - showcasing gruesome spinal chord rips and limb-splitting explosions.
Sheeva
A character who originally debuted in Mortal Kombat 3, Sheeva is from the multi-limbed Shokan species, similar to Goro and Kintaro.
Sheeva also made an appearance in the Mortal Kombat 11 story mode as a non-playable character.

Fujin
Fujin made his debut in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, although he wasn’t playable until his appearance in Mortal Kombat 4.
His return in Mortal Kombat 11 marks the first time he’s been playable for nearly 14 years.

RoboCop
Joining the ranks of guest characters like Terminator and The Joker, RoboCop makes his debut in Mortal Kombat with the original voice of Peter Weller from the 1987 movie.
Interestingly, he’ll also come with a variety of skins. There’ll be the original RoboCop grey suit, the bluer model from RoboCop 2, and a special skin created by NetherRealm Studios called Mortal Kombat 3 Cyber Ninja RoboCop.

Are Friendships coming back too?
You bet. First introduced in Mortal Kombat II, Friendships were created in response to the public outrage over the Fatality finishing moves - showing a softer, cuddlier side to characters instead of ripping out spines.
They’re now set to return in Mortal Kombat 11 via a free update alongside Aftermath, with Friendships for characters gradually being revealed in advance.
