Marvel Studios are developing a new Thunderbolts anti-hero movie

A new report by Deadline suggests that a new antihero movie, based on Marvel's Thunderbolts comic, has entered its early stages of development at Marvel Studios.

If you didn't know, the Thunderbolts are an antihero team comprising heroes: Hawkeye, Charcoal, Ogre, and more; in some respect, it is a Marvel version of DC's Suicide Squad.

While the project has understandably gained tremendous traction, reports suggest that Jake Schreier has been enlisted as the director of the upcoming Marvel film. Here's everything that we know so far.

Marvel Thunderbolts Movie enters Early Development

Phase 4 of the Marvel Comic Universe (MCU) has already garnered tremendous excitement from fans, having shown our favorite Marvel superheroes dealing with the Endgame aftermath while also introducing new faces and stories.

Relatedly, it seems Marvel Studios has many more projects in the pipeline for Phase 4 and beyond with the development of the Thunderbolts movie -- indeed, this is great news for avid moviegoers and Marvel fans.

As reported by Deadline, the Thunderbolts movie will be directed by Jake Schreier, with Black Widow writer Eric Pearson authoring the script. Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, will be producing the upcoming project.

Unfortunately, there isn't much else known about the film at this time other than the story being centered around a bunch of villains who are sent on assignments authorized by the government. Sound familiar?

Likewise, it's still unclear which characters will make the cut on the big screen (and consequently, who will be cast) since the movie is still in its nascent development stage; however, Deadline reports that Marvel has been contacting certain people who already are part of the MCU "to make sure to keep an opening in their schedules for next summer when it shoots."

General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross commissioned the first team (as reflected by the name), so the chances of him being in the movie are pretty high, but it is unconfirmed as no deal for the actor has closed yet.

William Hurt, the actor who portrayed Ross in the MCU, tragically passed away on March 13th, just one week before his 72nd birthday. So it's likely that the studio will have to look for someone to replace the legendary actor.

Other characters like Baron Zemo, Yelena Belova, Ghost, Taskmaster, The Abomination, US Agent, and the Winter Soldier also have high chances of appearing in the film. However, nothing has been confirmed as of writing.
