Insomniac Games, the studio behind the best-selling PS4 and PS5 exclusive Marvel's Spider-Man, and Marvel Spider-Man: Miles Morales, is rumored to be working on a brand-new IP with a multiplayer component.
The studio continues to be Sony's most rewarding acquisition in recent history, shipping three blockbuster titles in just five years. Insomniac Games is primarily working on Marvel's Spider-Man 2, slated for release in 2023, alongside another highly anticipated Marvel project called Marvel's Wolverine.
However, numerous rumors suggest that Insomniac Games is working on a third multiplayer project, seemingly confirmed by a recent job listing at the company. This third new project from the Ratchet and Clank developer is not just a multiplayer game but an entirely new IP.
Insomniac Games' mysterious new multiplayer IP
The job listing (which may or may not be available anymore) is for the position of Art Director at Insomniac Games with an "experience in shipping at least one AAA game with a multiplayer component, or a demonstrable understanding of Art Direction for multiplayer games."
The most interesting bit of the info is in the "Responsibilities" section of the job description, which clearly states the need to assist in the development of a new IP with creative directors.

PlayStation has been aggressively investing and expanding towards building an ecosystem of live service and multiplayer games, so it isn't surprising to see one of its best studios working on a multiplayer-centric project.
The PlayStation brand has produced some of the most iconic AAA single-player games in the past, and it's refreshing to see the company diverge towards a different side of the gaming spectrum.
By acquiring the Halo and Destiny developer, PlayStation has already built a solid foundation for live-service games. However, it would need more PlayStation exclusive new multiplayer IPs to make its mark in the multiplayer department.
Insomniac's upcoming multiplayer project could be one piece of that puzzle though unfortunately, fans would have to wait a while before they get their hands on this mysterious project. As mentioned before, the studio currently has its hands full with two massive games, the latter of which won't come out at least until 2024.
If Insomniac's recent release pattern is any indication, fans shouldn't expect this new multiplayer IP until 2025-26. Thankfully, the studio doesn't shy away from announcing its projects earlier, so fans could expect an official reveal sooner rather than later.
