Fans around the world were excited beyond belief when news first broke that a Fantastic Four reboot was in the works for another Marvel cinematic experience. There have been numerous Fantastic Four films already, dating back to 1994, but the upcoming release has arguably the most intrigue to date, at least it did.
The reboot of the Fantastic Four franchise will be the first since a notorious 2015 flop at the box offices, though it will have to go forward without a key creative cog. Catch up on all the details after it was announced that Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts is leaving the Fantastic Four reboot.
Jon Watts leaving the Fantastic Four reboot
After directing the ultra-popular and successful Spider-Man: No Way Home, Jon Watts was certainly a hot name in the world of superhero movies. Spider-Man: No Way Home ended ups as the sixth highest-grossing film of all time to the tune of $1.9 billion and gave a breath of fresh air to the Spider-Man franchise.

No Way Home was the trilogy film of the Spider-Man series with stars Tom Holland and Zendaya, and Watts was set to then jump on board and direct the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. However, a recent announcement revealed that Jon Watts wouldn't be directing the Marvel film, at least not now.
Why is Jon Watts leaving the Fantastic Four reboot?
While the news may come as a shock to many, there shouldn't be panic or worry amongst fans. Watts stepping away from the Fantastic Four reboot isn't for contractual or financial reasons, the director simply wants a break and breath of fresh air from the superhero movie realm.
There doesn't seem to be any hard feelings from the Marvel side either, with a statement from Kevin Feige (president) and Louis D'Esposito (co-president) reading “Collaborating with Jon on the Spider-Man films has been a true pleasure. We were looking forward to continuing our work with him to bring the Fantastic Four into the MCU but understand and are supportive of his reasons for stepping away. We are optimistic that we will have the opportunity to work together again at some point down the road.”
