Two new card drops became available for the latest season of Marvel Snap, which focuses on the immortal superhero team, the Eternals. As such, multiple team members will be debuting in-game with Gilgamesh as the Season pass card and several cards through the Spotlight Caches throughout June 2024, like Thena.

Highly trained and skilled in wielding unique weaponry that has existed throughout time and history, the Eternal Thena looks to maximize Power gained for herself, which is conditional based on the cards being played. We've looked at this eternal warrior, Thena, by highlighting her abilities, as well as the best card synergies and decks to try for Marvel Snap.

Marvel Snap Thena Card Abilities Explained

The first Spotlight featured card has arrived at Marvel Snap, and as the season is honoring the Eternals in June 2024, the mighty Thena will join Gilgamesh to start "The Celestials' Finest" season. Thena's comic book origins and subsequent history had her associated with the Eternals and the Deviants through her tumultuous relationship with Kro, which differs from her MCU appearance in The Eternals film back in 2021.

Nevertheless, Thena's abilities throughout comics and other media have seen her study under some of the greatest scholarly minds, human and Eternal, which saw her attain a vast knowledge of combat skillsets and weaponry. Together with her Eternal physiology, which includes feats of superhuman agility, durability, speed, and strength, Thena is such a character that all who encounter her should fear.

Considering this knowledge, Thena's ability in Marvel Snap functions similarly in-game as she's confirmed to be a two-Cost and one-Powered card at launch. She possesses an ability that sees her gain +3 Power each turn if players have played exactly two cards for that turn, which sees her as one of the best synergies for Gilgamesh.

As for acquiring Thena, the card is currently available from the in-game Shop and is valued at 6,000 Collector's Tokens. Likewise, if they wish to reserve their Collector's Tokens, they can spend their Spotlight Keys, which can be gained from Spotlight Caches, which Thena is available for a limited time, so let's look at a few decks and key card synergies for Thena.

Best Marvel Snap Thena Decks: Gloriously Thena

A Loki deck works well with Thena as it has unique cards that not only synergize with Loki but also help meet Thena's condition for her ability to trigger. (Picture: Untapped.gg)

To reiterate, Thena will gain +3 Power each turn when exactly two cards have been played, which somewhat rules out Bounce decks, which often demand more than two cards played per turn. Likewise, if players opt to pass on Thena, Angela, and Kitty Pryde, they would be her comparable cards with less restrictive conditions to meet.

Therefore, they'll want to look at specific deck archetypes that will play to Thena's ability condition, which a Loki deck best synergizes with her condition of playing two cards per turn. This glorious deck from Marvel Snap content creator ItsGuestGaming pairs various cards together to achieve Thena's condition by ensuring Thena is played on Turn 2.

This sees multiple unique plays occurring from Turn 3 onwards, whether it's playing Cable or Jeff the Baby Land Shark and a one-Cost card like Kitty Pryde/Quinjet; Cable and Jeff or Hope Summers and Kitty Pryde/Quinjet on Turn 4 and Loki or Ms. Marvel with a one-Cost card or a three-Cost card with a two-Cost card on Turn 5. The final turn should see players either putting down Cannonball or Professor X with a one-Cost card on Turn 6, which could see Thena maxing out on gaining 12 Power when the match ends.

Best Marvel Snap Thena Decks: Thena Lockdown

Pair up cards that can benefit from Ravonna Renslayer and slot in Thena in this variation of a Lockdown deck. (Picture: Untapped.gg)

Ideally, since Thena can work with Lockdown cards like Professor X and possibly Storm, Ravonna Renslayer has been factored into a deck built around Thena. This happened to be the case, as evident in this Ravonna Lockdown deck from Marvel Snap content creator SafetyBlade, which should get key cards brought down in cost to be played a turn earlier.

Players will want to get Ravonna Renslayer down on Turn 2, which, if not possible, Angela or Thena can be played with Ravonna and Nebula on Turn 3. The remaining turns could see Jeff the Baby Land Shark, White Widow (or Green Goblin, who'll get discounted by Ravonna), Wolfsbane, and Sage (or Hit-Monkey if they don't have Sage).

Remember that if Ravonna is still not in their hand by Turn 3 or 4, they can put Hope Summers and Kitty Pryde to meet Thena's condition and gain some energy for a possible double-card play the following turn. The last turn can be reserved for Cannonball or Professor X and Kitty Pryde to lock down a lane and gain priority.

Best Marvel Snap Thena Decks: Eternally At War

Go full offense by pairing Thena with Gilgamesh for maximum Power gained for both cards. (Picture: Untapped.gg)

Finally, we've mentioned that Thena naturally makes a good synergy card for Gilgamesh, so why not put them both in the deck to create some magic? As Gilgamesh would be a card played on Turn 5 or 6 (ideally), Thena can be played relatively early to help meet Gilgamesh's condition.

There are a couple of decks that spotlight Thena and Gilgamesh, but we were ultimately intrigued by a deck from Marvel Snap content creator Ninaisnoob, which also includes a few cards we've mentioned in other decks previously. This includes Kitty Pryde, Angela, Jeff the Baby Land Shark, Sage, and Cannonball, which can be played on Turn 5 for a Gilgamesh play on Turn 6.

Additionally, some new cards can help meet Thena and Gilgamesh's conditions, with Rocket Raccoon gaining Power when an opponent card is played on the same lane. Nico Minoru has spells that give herself or another card Power; Ironheart gives Power to two random cards, and Sage (or Hit-Monkey) gains Power for themselves when played, which should help Thena and Gilgamesh gain as much Power as possible on the last turn.
