The Young Avengers season continues to inject much-needed vigor and excitement into deckbuilding in Marvel Snap. Thus far, we've seen some unique approaches to deckbuilding following Kate Bishop, Marvel Boy, and Wiccan's releases, and its next member will be stepping up to the plate if players can catch up to him.

Wiccan's twin brother Speed will join the roster, providing a significant speed boost to decks with his supersonic abilities that give players an advantage in proceeding turns. This guide will delve into this youthful Avenger by explaining his in-game abilities, looking at key synergies and counters, and providing three good decks to include Speed at launch for Marvel Snap.

Marvel Snap Speed Card Abilities Explained

The son of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and The Vision and twin brother to Billy Kaplan/Wiccan, Thomas "Tommy" Shepherd is a high-speed superhero whose lightning-fast abilities can sometimes frustrate him when his allies can't catch up. Not only can he move, react, and think at "superhuman speeds," but every aspect of his body has adapted to his immense power, allowing him to metabolize fast, "expels waste products" at accelerated speeds, and his muscular anatomy being able to withstand high impact, making him extremely more durable than most superheroes.

Aside from his supersonic abilities, Speed can create "hyperkinetic vibrations" at close range, which he can emit to target enemies and is fast enough to expand and reduce its atomic structure. His abilities were impressive enough that he joined his twin brother as a member of the Young Avengers, and like Wiccan, he'll be dashing his way to Marvel Snap for the current season, bringing his "supersonic" abilities to the card battler game.

At release, Speed is a three-Cost and three Power card with a lightning-quick Ongoing ability to grant +1 Power every turn when all Energy has been spent. Speed's ability is quite similar to Wiccan's, although with some key differences, as Speed's ability triggers every turn where Wiccan's is on the turn he's played.

Players looking to grab Speed during his release week can acquire the character card from the Spotlight Caches using Spotlight Keys. Likewise, they can spend 6,000 Collector's Tokens to buy the card from the Token Shop if they don't have enough keys or have plenty of Tokens to spare.

Best Marvel Snap Speed Decks: Speedy Bounce

A Bounce-like deck may be a good early deck to include Speed to, as it features a handful of low-Cost cards to meet its condition. (Picture: Untapped.gg)

A handful of great synergy decks can be highly beneficial of Speed's inclusion, and a Bounce deck is one of the most affordable decks to consider. With the exception of Nocturne and maybe Mockingbird and Sasquatch, the rest of the deck consists of cards that most players should have in their Collections, which will guarantee they're always meeting Speed's condition to gain the extra Energy.

This high-value deck has bounced its way from Marvel Snap content creator Docty, primarily centers its deckbuilding around the Kitty Pryde/Thena/Angela package to ensure early location priority until Speed is played. Should they require more Energy to spend Energy, Hope Summers is a great synergistic card for Speed, which, due to this, can be played much later with Elsa Bloodstone and Kate Bishop's arrows.

Nocturne (or Magik) can prolong the game by a turn if they still need to set up locations for Mysterio before higher-Cost cards like Gwenpool, Mockingbird, and Sasquatch can be played. Likewise, Kate Bishop's arrows and Mysterio will help reduce Mockingbird and Sasquatch's costs but do hold them off until later to avoid Shang-Chi destroying them off the board.

Best Marvel Snap Speed Decks: Supercharged Surfer

A Silver Surfer deck might be the best home for Speed as it's also a great target for the Surfer to hit for a power buff. (Picture: Untapped.gg)

Speed can create issues within specific deck archetypes, being a pretty high-powered mid-range three-Cost card, as he may be an easy target for counters like Rogue, Enchantress, and Shang-Chi on particular locations. One deck that can be both beneficial and somewhat awkward to include him in is a Silver Surfer deck, where while the aim is to play key cards to set up lanes before Silver Surfer is on board, Speed might cause some friction on whether to play him as early as Turn 3 to gain the extra Energy.

Regardless, he's still a good inclusion, as it's also a great target for Silver Surfer in this deck by Marvel Snap content creator Ankh. In terms of gameplay, it's still a fairly classic Surfer deck but with a few tweaks, such as adding Sera to discount cards and Quicksilver to guarantee a Turn 1 play alongside a few two-Cost cards like Goose to avoid Sebastian Shaw and other high-powered cards from being targeted by Shang-Chi.

Captain America's inclusion is to help buff a few Ongoing cards featured, like Speed, Strong Guy, and Sera, while Makkari is a fantastic target for Surfer and is one less card to worry about when meeting Strong Guy's condition. Finally, we have Forge and Gwenpool to buff the base powers for a few key cards like Brood and Sebastian Shaw before Silver Surfer gets onto the board to target all three-Cost cards, especially Shaw and the Ongoing cards, for a massive power advantage at critical locations and the win.

Best Marvel Snap Speed Decks: At Spectrum Speeds

Captain America and Spectrum are two of Speed's best synergies and they both feature in the Spectrum Ongoing deck archetype. (Picture: Untapped.gg)

Spectrum decks are another deck archetype that can benefit from Speed's inclusion as it synergizes exceptionally well with Captain America and Spectrum. Cap will buff all Ongoing cards played at its location by +3 Power, which this specific lane can be nullified by Rogue and Enchantress, which either Cosmo or Goose could prevent this from occurring.

This Spectrum deck comes courtesy of Marvel Snap content creator ReZ Snapper; this deck is built around Captain America by pairing mid-range powered Ongoing cards that can gain its buff like Mojo, Dazzler, and Klaw, which exponentially increases the base powers of Mojo and Dazzler if their locations are full. Other cards like Ghost and Speed can also increase their base powers, but they should protect this location with Goose or Cosmo as an alternative if players are worried about Rogue and Enchantress coming into play.

While this deck sees multiple low to mid-range powered Ongoing cards featured in this deck, Thanos has also found his way, giving players more than enough low-cost cards to meet Speed's requirement to spend all the Energy to get more in return. With Magik allowing to extend the game by one turn, players should be able to get Spectrum and Onslaught out on back-to-back turns to power up the Captain America or Klaw lanes to surprise and overwhelm their opponents.
