Ever since its announcement, Marvel Rivals has been one of the most anticipated multiplayer titles. After various closed playtests, the hype has only grown and we’ve all been wondering when we can finally get our hands on it. Well, the wait is over as NetEase has officially revealed the Marvel Rivals release date at Gamescom; mark Friday, December 6, 2024, on your calendars.
Showcased during the Marvel Rivals Gamescom trailer, it’s confirmed that the new superhero shooter rivalling Overwatch 2 will be launching at the start of December. Launching around the holiday season, it couldn’t be a better time for Marvel Rivals to take on Overwatch. Sadly though, it does mean we have to wait a little bit longer. Given all the previous playtests have been limited access, the wait will be even more challenging for those who haven’t yet had the chance to play it for themselves.
The good news doesn’t end here though, as NetEase also revealed two brand-new heroes - Captain America and the Winter Soldier. If you’ve been keeping up with the hero shooter, then these won’t exactly be big surprises as both new additions had been leaked long before their official reveal. Nevertheless, we finally get an official look at these characters in action, including the abilities that set them apart from the rest of the Marvel Rivals characters.
Unsurprisingly, Captain America, a tank hero, uses his iconic shield to dish out justice on the battlefield. From the gameplay, it’s clear that Captain America is an incredibly aggressive hero, charging into the fray with his shield raised before launching it at enemies. Most impressively though, Cap will be able to reflect ultimate abilities back at his attackers, similar to Overwatch’s Genji. Imagine the chaos that will follow after reflecting Iron Man’s pulse cannon…
On the other hand, the Winter Soldier A.K.A Bucky Barnes brings the enemies to him by pulling them towards him before unleashing his bionic arm in a powerful area-of-effect slam or shooting his trusty pistol. He’ll no doubt be a manacing to backline supports.
With a firm release date finally locked in, now we just have to play the waiting game before we can get our hands on Marvel Rivals. Plus, with yet another confirmation that all future heroes will be unlocked and playable for free, there’s a lot to look forward to.
