Following its highly successful late 2024 release, Marvel Rivals left fans eagerly anticipating what the new year might bring to the game. While many expected the addition of a single new hero in early 2025, the developers have once again surpassed expectations.
They’ve announced the arrival of not one, but four brand-new heroes -the legendary members of the Fantastic Four. Let’s break down the details and explore everything we know so far about the Fantastic Four’s debut in this action-packed hero shooter, Marvel Rivals.
Marvel Rivals Confirm the Fantastic Four as New Playable Heroes
Over on the official Marvel Rivals Twitter page, the developers have announced that fans should “Get ready to welcome Marvel’s First Family in Marvel Rivals” - confirming the arrival of the Fantastic Four. They also revealed that the trailer for their introduction will premiere on January 6th at 8:00 AM PST / 16:00 UTC.

The announcement was accompanied by artwork showcasing the iconic heroes, and it’s clear that each character has been meticulously designed to match the theme and art style of Marvel Rivals. Fans are already expressing excitement, with some pledging their loyalty to Invisible Woman as a favorite. While we’re still waiting to see how the Fantastic Four will play and what abilities they’ll bring, the reveal has certainly generated a lot of hype.
Interestingly, the Fantastic Four’s helper robot, H.E.R.B.I.E., is also prominently featured in the promotional art. This has sparked speculation about whether H.E.R.B.I.E. could be a playable character. The developers didn’t explicitly state that only four heroes are being added, they simply referred to the group as a “family.” This wording has led some to believe H.E.R.B.I.E. might join the roster, although it’s also possible the robot could serve as an assistant to one or more of the heroes.
Speaking of the number of heroes in this massive update, it’s worth noting how surreal it feels to see a hero shooter drop an entire group of characters all at once - and for free. Maybe it’s the Overwatch 2 hero cycle still lingering in my mind, but receiving this much content so soon after launch reinforces that Marvel Rivals is pulling ahead in the hero shooter genre.
For now, get hyped and mark your calendar for the trailer release on January 6th! And of course, once we have all the details about the Fantastic Four’s abilities and gameplay, we’ll be sure to provide a full breakdown - so be sure to check back soon!
