The new citybuilder Manor Lords is full of different resources you can make use of, but one of the ones you'll need a little investment for is sheep. Players looking to secure wool, either to trade or as a crafting material, will need to get a few different things in place before it all works as intended. Here, we'll go over how to get sheep in Manor Lords, make wool, and use it to help your town.
How to Get Sheep in Manor Lords
As you're getting rolling in a new save in Manor Lords, getting sheep isn't able to be your first priority. Make sure your town has secured regular fuel and food supplies first, and then get some Regional Wealth flowing in. The last part is key, as you can't do much until you've got some saved up.
Once you're ready to start getting some wool production underway, build a Livestock Trading Post. Assign at least one family to that trading post, go to the Trade tab on the building, and set sheep to import until it reaches the desired surplus. Usually, it's best to start with just 4 to 6 sheep at most. This gives you a good group without going overboard with costs too quickly.
It'll take time for the sheep to actually import, but during that interim make sure you've also built a Sheep Farm. Fortunately, both that and the Livestock Trading Post only cost a few timber. The Sheep Farm has five pasture slots to begin with, so you can actually keep a low number there.
If you want space for even more livestock, or just like the aesthetic of it, you can also build a pasture of any size. Go with what fits your town, but do try to keep it close to the Sheep Farm so that families don't have to go too far to collect wool from your sheep. You can also amplify your stock of sheep by choosing the Sheepbreeding development perk after increasing your settlement level, which will require a pasture.
How to Use Wool in Manor Lords
Once you've secured a regular supply of wool by importing a few sheep and keeping a family assigned to the Sheep Farm, there are a few ways to make use of that resource. The easiest and quickest option, which can help you recoup some of the costs of importing those sheep, is to set up an export are your standard Trading Post to sell wool.
You can also build a Weaver's Workshop for a few timber, and assigned families will gather wool from the Sheep Farm to then craft yarn. Just like wool, you can export yarn directly via the Trading Post if desired.
Lastly, if you have upgraded a Burgage Plot to Level 2 and built the Tailor's Shop as a backyard extension, you have the option of making cloaks. To do this, you'll also need a regular supply of dyes from a Dyer's Workshop (and a regular supply of berries to make those dyes, like from a rich deposit).
When you have the necessary resources, select your Tailor's Shop and go to the General tab to pick cloaks as their production focus. Once all the pieces are in place, you can then supply cloaks for your own people or export them at much higher prices than the base materials to keep more regional wealth flowing into your growing Manor Lords town.
