The Last of Us has seen a huge resurgence in popularity thanks to the Part 1 remake and the upcoming HBO TV Series of the same name. Considering that The Last of Us Part II was released in June 2020, fans have been speculating when The Last of Us Part III will release.
It is no secret that The Last of Us Part II was met with far more of a mixed response when compared to the glowing reviews of the first game. For fans of the franchise, the third part of this trilogy is highly anticipated. Contrastly, those who dislike the second game are likely hoping for some redemption.

Latest Last of Us Part 3 News & Leaks
In an interview with IGN, Neil Druckmann was asked about TLOU Part 3, and stated: "No comment. I'll just say our focus on... We have the multiplayer game coming out and we're going to reveal more about that later this year."
While it is a stretch, we might just see The Last of Us Part 3 announced in 2023 if the rumor of the game being in production is accurate.
A rumor is floating around that Neil Druckmann's next game is The Last of Us Part 3 and that it is already in production at Naughty Dog. Take this information with a grain of salt.
The Last of Us Part 3 Release Date Speculation
At the time of writing, there is no official confirmed release date for The Last of Us Part III, but in this article, you’ll find all (if any) information that the developer shared, as well as some speculation from Ginx on when we could see it launch.
The original game was first released in 2013, with the sequel announced in 2016 and eventually released in 2020. That is seven whole years between the first and second games coming out.
It is also reported that Naughty Dog is not currently developing The Last of Us Part 3 in even the earliest stages. Therefore, it will likely be several years before The Last of Us Part 3 releases.
This may change based on the success of the HBO TV show and the remake, which may spark outcry from fans to get moving on the third installment of the series. However, if previous release schedules are anything to go by, we can expect The Last of Us Part 3 sometime in 2028.
The Last of Us Part 3 Story & Script
In 2021, the Creative Director of The Last of Us Part 2, Neil Druckmann, revealed in the Script Apart podcast that a tentative story outline for The Last of Us Part 3 had been created. He went on to say that the game is "not in development... yet."
This all but confirms that The Last of Us Part 3 will hit store shelves eventually, but nothing concrete is known at this time.
Credible leaker Oops Leaks also has gone on record to say that the script is ready, and development may pick up steam due to the Studio's expansion. Hopefully, this means less than a seven-year break between games.

Nothing but official statements from the studio, the outline of the script is ready, but the studio is engrossed in the development of the aforementioned projects. It is possible that development will begin faster than expected due to studio's expansion.
Upcoming The Last of Us Projects
As mentioned, The Last of Us Part 1 remake was released on September 2, 2022, exclusively for the PS5. Aside from this, Druckmann has confirmed that the development team is in the midst of creating a multiplayer factions game that will take place in the world of The Last of Us.
The game is said to be "as big as any of [Naughty Dog's] single-player games," but only concept art is available now. Druckmann has stated that we will hear more about the title in 2023. It is being referred to at present as The Last of Us 2: Factions.
