With the upcoming Summer Game Fest 2023 coming up on 9th June, a lot of people are wondering if we might see more from The Last of Us 3.
The beloved post-apocalyptic franchise recently got an HBO adaptation that was incredibly successful and wildly popular, so people are wondering if we might see another game soon. This anticipation led to many fans believing that we might hear more at the PlayStation Showcase; unfortunately, though, there was no news.
This has left many fans asking, will The Last Of Us 3 appear at the Summer Game Fest? Let's take a look at the possibilities.
Will The Last of Us Part 3 Be At The Summer Game Fest?
Honestly, it's anybody's guess. We know that TLOU 3 is in development thanks to several different leakers, and even if we didn't, we could guess that it would be rapidly put into development thanks to the sheer popularity of the HBO show, but it's likely not ready for a full gameplay demo yet.
If the game is shown off, it'll likely be in the same vein as the original reveal of God of War: Ragnarok. That game was revealed with a trailer that simply showed the logo of the game and played the theme while iterating that it is in development. Something like that but for The Last of Us Part 3 could plausibly show up.
While we aren't sure whether The Last Of Us Part 3 will make an appearance, it's very possible that it might show up during the Summer Game Fest 2023 on 9th June.
When Could The Last Of Us Part 3 Release?
It's likely that the game is pretty early in development, so a release would be a couple of years away at the bare minimum. That means you likely wouldn't see Ellie again until 2025, or possibly even later than that.
What Might The Last Of Us Part 3 Be About?
The Last of Us Part 2 ends in such a way that Ellie is left in an extremely dark place. She's been left by everybody she cares about because she went in pursuit of revenge, and she has nothing left. A hypothetical part 3 would conclude that arc, showing what happens to Ellie after she gives up her quest for revenge, and showing how these characters keep living past such a traumatic event as Joel's death.
What we do know is that Naughty Dog doesn't mind ending stories. They could have easily continued Nathan Drake's adventures beyond Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, but they didn't. The Last of Us Part 3 could be a conclusion to a trilogy, and an end to our time with these characters that we've come to love despite their deeply complicated actions.
