Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, the Zelda / Dynasty Warrior's crossover that sees players command troops, and hack and slash their way across Hyrule as they attempt to capture bases and complete missions.
Set 100 years before Breath of the Wild, player's will recognise much of both the world and the opponents you must fight within it, with much of what made the 2017 game so great transported into this new title.

One thing that separates itself from that game, and there are many things actually, is the ability to play as many different characters - there are nineteen in all with players having to unlock them, something which they do as they play through the game.
One of those characters is the Great Fairies and this guide will show you how to unlock them in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.
How to unlock the Great Fairies in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
Players looking to unlock the Great Fairies in Age of Calamity will need to have completed the first mission of Chapter 4.
From the map view hover over the area in the south-west named "Gerudo" and find the "Offering Help on the Road" prompt.
This will ask you to give a "weary traveller" 4,500 Rupees so that he can give as an offering at the Great Fairy Fountain.

This will give you access to three new Fairy Fountain Challenges which must be completed to unlock the Great Fairies.
Note: You can complete these challenges in any order.
Fairy Fountain: Grassy Plains
In the Recommended Lev. 21 - Lv. 30 drop down menu you will find the "Fairy Fountain: Grass Plains" challenge - enter this battle.
You will find yourself battling many opponents in this zone including a Fire and Ice Moblin and a Hinox, defeating them is the only way you to complete the challenge.
You will also be tasked with collecting some Rupees along the way.
None of it is incredibly difficult but you have a set time to defeat each so don't wait around.

Head towards the Targeted Position once there you will find the Great Fairy Cotera. You will need to defeat her in battle.

Once defeated you will have successfully completed the challenge.
Fairy Fountain: Deep Snows
From the same list of challenges head into Fairy Fountain: Deep Snows.
To complete this challenge you will have complete these objectives
- Defeat 5 Ice Moblins
- Collect 1,500 Rupees
- Find and destroy Great Fairy Kaysa.

Fairy Fountain: Desert Sands
Next up is Desert Sands.
Your first objective is to collect 600 Rupees. You can do this by killing the various opponents that dot around the map, the smaller minions will net you a couple of coins each while the larger, Yiga Blademasters, will reward you with 50 Rupees.
Once you collect the 600 Rupees you will be given a Targeted Position where you will find the Great Fairy Tera.

You know the score. Defeat her.
Fairy Fountain: Battlefield
There is just one last step to unlocking the Great Fairy as a playable character and that is completing the Fairy Fountain: Battlefield challenge.
The objectives are as follows:
- Defeat the Blue Moblin
- Collect the Rupees (2199). All Rupees will be collected after you defeat the various Moblins altogether there are:
- Blue Moblin x 3
- Black Moblin x 1
- Ice Moblin x 1
- Electric Moblin x 1
- Once you have collected all the Rupees you will be given a targeted location.
- Follow the map until you run into the Great Fairy Mija.

The death of Mija (or whatever Great Fairy you slay last) will award you the Great Fairy character.

You will be taken into Great Fairy training which once complete will allow you to use it as a playable character.

Of course, the Great Fairy is quite a unique character in that different attacks will summon different fairies to the battle.
Complete the Great Fairy Training and you will be able to select them as a playable character from now on!
