Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut release for PC has become one of the biggest launches for PlayStation since Helldivers 2. The action-adventure game, which became available via Epic Games Store and Steam on 16th May 2024, attracted a high player count at launch on Steam and is continuing the momentum during the weekend.
According to reporting by VGC, Ghost of Tsushima attracted over 59,000 concurrent players at launch on Steam, a number that continued to rise as it competed against other Sony-developed and published games. However, Helldivers 2 remains at the top, having recovered much of its player base following the PSN controversy early this month.
Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut's PC launch became the fourth biggest release for PlayStation based on concurrent players and PlayStation's biggest single-player entry, surpassing God of War. According to figures from SteamDB and Day 1 reports from VGC, the action-adventure game from Sucker Punch Productions had seen 59,244 peak concurrent players, a figure which had since increased following its launch weekend.
As of writing, the new peak concurrent players for Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut stands at 77,154 players, making it the second highest behind Helldivers 2 at 458,709 concurrent players. This places Ghost of Tsushima ahead of 2018's God of War, Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, and Horizon Zero Dawn as of 20th May 2024.
The action-adventure game was developed in conjunction with developer Nixxes Software, who helped port it to PC despite experiencing some issues at launch. These include game crashes, server connection issues, PSN login problems, and more, but many have been resolved thanks to a support post from Nixxes.
Ghost of Tsushima, first released for PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles in 2020, follows a brave samurai, Jin Sakai, on a daunting quest to defend Tsushima Island from the "fearsome Mongol Empire." As one of the last remaining samurai to defend this island, Sakai must master a new fighting form to defeat the Mongol invaders and free Japan from conflict.
The game launched for PC features the base game, the Legends co-op multiplayer mode, the Iki Island expansion, and over 70 Trophies to unlock. It also features a number of PC features and settings, like crossplay support, customizable keyboard and mouse controls, unlocked framerates, ultrawide monitor support, and graphic settings for a more immersive gaming experience at launch.
