How to detonate gas cans to destroy objects in Fortnite

There has been so much for players to explore in Chapter 3 of Fortnite as the battle royale's storyline continues. A new map was revealed after The End of Chapter 2 resulting in the island flipping over, and players have been enjoying the new scenery.

Season 1 of Chapter 3 has a new battle pass as well, filled with exclusive outfits and other cosmetics available for unlocking. The fastest way to clear levels on your battle pass remains the weekly challenges, offering tons of XP for completing in-game tasks.

Week 4 challenges are now live and one of the tasks requires players to detonate gas cans to destroy objects. Here's where to find gas cans and how to complete the challenge to unlock the XP.

One of the Week 4 challenges requires you to Detonate gas cans to destroy objects (2). Gas cans can be found at various locations throughout the map and once you find one the challenge is very simple to complete.

First introduced to the game in Chapter 2 as a necessary fuel for vehicles, gas cans double as explosives when you're in need of a quick blast. Here are all the map locations where you can find gas cans in Fortnite Chapter 3.

How to detonate a gas can to destroy objects in Fortnite - Chapter 3 Season 1

Once you've obtained a gas can, the completion of the challenge is very simple. You'll just need to mind your distance as to not take any damage in the process.

Find any destroyable object (something small like a wooden box works best), drop your gas can next to the object, back away to a safe distance, and shoot the gas can until it explodes. You'll only need to destroy two objects to complete the challenge, so placing the gas can in a doorway of a house is an easy way to complete it all in one shot.

Once you've completed the challenge, you'll unlock 25,000 XP for your battle pass and cross-off another Week 4 challenge. Here's what the tasks look like in action.
