The day arrived which saw millions of people tuned in for the Nintendo Direct presentation livestream on dedicated channels on 2nd April 2025. The theme for the latest Direct presentation was centered around Nintendo's next hardware release, the Nintendo Switch 2 console, with a release date confirmed and penciled in for 5th June 2025.
During the presentation, audiences were treated to an Overview trailer for the upcoming hardware release, which spotlighted several features and software included with the console and multiple games available at launch and post-launch. It was an absolute spectacle that saw multiple first-party and third-party releases coming to the Switch 2 consoles, and regarding third-party releases, one upcoming game, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4, was confirmed to be skating its way to the console but with an extra underwater treat in store.
The Nintendo Direct presentation for the upcoming console, the Switch 2, will go on sale on 5th June 2025 globally, and its retail selling price caught players' attention on social media. While that conversation continues to generate much attention online, the games, as always, also stole the spotlight during the presentation, during which multiple first-party and third-party releases were confirmed to be launching for the console.
One of these third-party releases is the upcoming extreme sports game Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4, currently slated to launch on 11th July 2025 for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Battle.net, Windows PCs, and Steam. While the game is launching for Nintendo Switch consoles, it was confirmed to be available for the Switch 2 consoles; however, no exact release date was to be announced.
The announcement trailer revealed a new secret level, area, or skatepark is coming to the game, in which players can find themselves skating across a new park based on Bikini Bottom from Nickelodeon's popular animated series, SpongeBob SquarePants, perhaps the first licensed property confirmed for the game. The game's developer, Iron Galaxy, had confirmed that it will feature several new and returning parks, with the confirmed Waterpark as the game's latest addition, but it's unclear if Bikini Bottom will be a secret level, area, or skatepark.
The end of the trailer did tease a Summer 2025 release, confirming that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 could likely launch on 11th July 2025 for all platforms, including the Switch 2, or possibly a separate release date to better optimize the game to take advantage of the console's specs. Either way, we'll be hearing more about Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4's Nintendo Switch 2 launch closer to its official launch this July, with more details to follow soon.
