Bethesda has released the free Next-Gen update for Fallout 4 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles this week. The update included a host of mode settings, native applications, increased resolutions, and more for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, while PS4 and Xbox One gained "stability improvements, login and quest fixes."
Unfortunately, while it's being reported that the Next-Gen update is breaking modded game save files, some PlayStation owners will have to wait a while longer to receive the update. It's being revealed that players who acquired the game through PlayStation Plus cannot receive the free update as it requires them to buy the full game.
Those who acquired Fallout 4 as a free game through the paid tier of PlayStation Plus were startled to discover that the Next-Gen update wasn't available for free. More specifically, Fallout 4 is available from the current catalog as a "free" title for the PS Plus Extra subscription, but the free update isn't listed as an option.
Bethesda has provided an update as they identified the issue for PS Plus Extra members and asked players to remain patient as they work on resolving it. This was posted to the official Bethesda account on Twitter, where they stressed that the team is currently working on the error and that an update will likely follow in the coming days.
We've seen some confusion regarding the free Fallout 4 next-gen update for PlayStation Plus Extra members. The Fallout 4 next-gen update will be available to PlayStation Plus Extra members through the PlayStation Game Catalog. Your patience is appreciated while the teams work on this.
PS Plus Extra subscription members are to hold off purchasing Fallout 4 for the time being until the Next-Gen update is made available to them. This update, which was planned to be released last year, was eventually made available on 25th April 2024 following the successful release of the Fallout series on Amazon Prime Video, which saw increases in player counts across multiple Fallout games.
