New EXODUS Deep Dive Shows Off Gameplay, Time Dilation, and Giant Frogs

Archetype Entertainment has been steadily unveiling more and more about their upcoming sci-fi RPG, EXODUS. In a recent stream hosted by CohhCarnage, Co-Founders of Archetype Entertainment James Ohlen and Chad Robertson, and filmmaker Tim Miller discussed some of the vision behind EXODUS, as well as how they brought it to life for PRIME Video’s Secret Level series.

The stream answered plenty of our burning questions, like how the combat works, if we'll have companions and, are there aliens? The answer to that last one is, kinda? They're mostly weird, mutated animals and other terrestrial beings that have evolved in a strange way. Creepy, though.

We learned that players will be accompanied by two companions on their journey, and how players interact with the world and story can drastically affect various outcomes, including how your relationship with these companions grows.

EXODUS' gameplay loop appears to be pretty typical of an RPG, mixing action-adventure with exploration and allowing players to advance as the Traveler — the game's protagonist.  A key element of this is the Livestone, a hybrid of mineral and vegetation created by the Celestials that's used for exploration and combat, and only controllable by select humans.

The game takes place in a time where humans have long since left Earth and have been forced to venture deeper into the star systems in order to ensure survival. Civilisation has advanced significantly during that time, though the level of development varies between colonies. The Traveler will be forging relationships with these colonies as they journey through space.

One of the biggest dangers that the Traveler will face is Time Dilation. As you head out on expeditions, time passes at an extrodinary rate back home. What seems like a day to The Traveler could be a decade for everyone else — very Interstellar. Speaking of which, a previous cinematic trailer introduced us to C.C. Orlev, a character voiced by actor Matthew McConaughey. The stream didn't quite go into details on how McConaughey's character will be involved, but we certainly can't wait to find out.
