Elder Scrolls Online Necrom: Release Date, Story, Zones, Companions, More

Zenimax Online Studios officially unveiled the next chapter in the Elder Scrolls Online universe, Necrom, at the Xbox Developer_Direct event.

Necrom will be ESO's biggest release of 2023 that will also be part of the larger Shadow Over Morrowind adventure. It adds two new zones, two companions, the Arcanist class, and more.

Without further ado, let's dive into everything ESO: Necrom has to offer.

1 June Update - We've checked for the latest news and leaks. The most up to date info can be found just below.

Latest ESO Necrom News

Bethesda and ZeniMax released the Final Gameplay Trailer for ESO: Necrom, ahead of its launch on June 5, 2023.

The new footage shows off some of the enemies, creatures and other new features in-engine, including additional footage of the new areas: Telvanni Penninsula and Apocrypha.

21 February - New Arcanist Class Overview Trailer released at IGN Fan Fest 2023

This past weekend IGN held its yearly Fan Fest online showcase and The Elder Scrolls Online was one such game showing off new reveals and trailers.

This came in the form of a new Arcanist Class Overview Trailer with Combat Lead Brian Wheeler. Whilst most of the details were pretty similar to everything we've heard before, we did get an 'exclusive' look at one of the Arcanist's new abilities, called 'Fate Carver'.

The new sneak peek starts around 1:25 for anyone who wants to skip ahead.

11 February - ESO Creative Director Provides Further Arcanist Updates

Zenimax Online Studios Creative Director, Rich Lambert, appeared on the latest episode of Xbox Podcast last week, and shared plenty of new details about ESO's new Arcanist class.

"This class is something that’s very different than anything that we’ve really built before," Lambert explained. "It’s really tightly integrated into the overarching storyline and themes. So a lot of the inspiration for this class centers around Hermaeus Mora and this thirst for forbidden knowledge. It is a little bit darker, it kind of  hits that cosmic horror vibe, the visuals are really, really cool, the sounds that the audio team came up with are really something you haven’t really heard before."

Lambert also dived into more details to explain how Arcanist will feel distinct from the games current classes, saying:

"It is more focused around, I guess, a combo point system – we call it Crux – but the general concept here is some abilities are builders of Crux, and some are spenders of Crux, and if you’re spending Crux your abilities do slightly different things or completely different things. And then with the Morphs and how we’ve integrated everything, you can control some abilities that aren’t spenders or builders from the onset but you can Morph them to do that. So there’s just this huge tool chest to really dig into and play with, and lots of interesting choices for the players to make to really get the mastery of this class.”

ESO: Necrom story and setting

In this latest ESO expansion, players will travel to the eastern coast of Morrowind, to the Telvanni Peninsula, the home of the House Telvani and the Necrom city. Players will also get to explore Apocrypha, Hermaeus Mora’s realm of Oblivion. Both zones are brimming with new quests, bosses, dungeons, and more.

Here's what Necrom's official description has to say about the game's story - "Defend the secrets of Hermaeus Mora and fight to preserve reality itself with The Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom, part of the Shadow Over Morrowind saga. Master the new Arcanist class, explore Morrowind’s Telvanni Peninsula and walk between worlds as you experience a new adventure that takes you from Tamriel into the mind-bending realm of Apocrypha itself. "

ESO: Necrom Zones

Telvanni Peninsula

Ruled over by House Telvannia, Telvannia Peninsula is a zone full of mushroom forests and rocky landscapes. It's also home to the politically neutral city Necrom, also known as the City of the Dead.

One could say that Necrom is the home to the Dark Elves across all of Morrowind. According to an ESO dev Murphy, "Necrom is a holy city for Dark Elves of all houses and affiliations."

Contrary to its name, Necrom is a bustling city full of NPCs, crafting stations, and vendors. There's also an Outlaw's Refuge for players who want to pay off their bounties.

Outside the City of the Dead, players can find the usual assortment of things native to every ESO zone, like world bosses, side quests, delves, and a dungeon, just to name a few.

Apocrypha

Apocrypha is the greenish realm of Hermaeus Mora, the Daedric prince of knowledge and memory. It's the second explorable zone in the Necrom expansion. One of the areas players will get to visit within Apocrypha is a settlement called Cipher's Midden, home to a powerful human faction called The Ciphers of the Eye."

When exploring this zone, players will also notice various tentacle growths. These are protectors of the Apocrypha and are loyal to Mora. Aside from these, players will come across several other Daderic entities that might not be very friendly.

Exploring the underbelly of Apocrypha will bring players to Chroma Incognito, a pinkish Lovecraftian space that's visually distinct from the rest of this Daedric realm.

ESO: Necrom new Arcanist Class

The Necrom expansion also adds a newly playable class Arcanist. As the name suggests, it's a powerful mage class with three separate skill lines that allow players to conjure destructive, restorative, and defensive magic using the arcane, ancient runes, and lost tomes of power.

ESO: Necrom new Companions

Like the Blackwood and High Isle expansion, the Necrom will also feature two new companions - A Redguard Arcanist Al-Cybiades and Argonian Warden Sharp-as-Night.

Players will be able to recruit these new companions by completing the companion quests associated with them.

ESO Necrom Collectibles and Rewards

Like every ESO chapter, Necrom will add a host of new collectibles for players to unlock. These include the Shroomtender’s Garb armor style, Graht-Oak Squirrel pet, and Obsidian Dwarven Sphere pet, among other things.

Completing almost every Necrom chapter Achievement will also unlock the Berylglow Nix-Ox Steed.

ESO: Necrom release date

ESO: Necrom arrives on 5th June 2023 for PC, and 20th June 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

That's everything you need to know about Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom.
