Dying Light The Beast is a new standalone game set between the events of the first and second game, and sees the return of Kyle Crane in a new, and certainly monstrous, way.

Almost a decade after the launch of the original Dying Light, and almost three years after the release of its sequel, Techland is bring a new pseudo-entry into the series. Titled Dying Light: The Beast, the new standalone game brings back the original game's protagonist set years after the events of The Following expansion.

Revealed during Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 20, 2024, Dying Light The Beast was originally planned as a DLC for Dying Light 2. However, as development on the expansion grew, developer Techland decided to announce it as a standalone title, bringing back Kyle Crane in a new way.

After years of experimentation following the events of Dying Light's The Following expansion, Dying Light The Beast brings a monstrous version of Crane to the series. Thanks to zombified abilities, you'll be able to hunt down zombies and humans alike in a new way for the parkour slasher.

While most of the gameplay in the trailer sticks to the experience we've come to expect from the series, we're yet to see 'The Beast' himself in action, using his new suite of abilities from his experiences post-Harran. However, for those who own the Dying Light 2 Ultimate Edition, you won't have to pay extra for the upcoming experience.

And, as showcased in the first trailer, the return of vehicles is fairly exciting. While Dying Light had its fair share of flaws, The Following's flat areas were made much better with the introduction of vehicles, and Kyle Crane's years of experimentation hasn't had any affect on his driving prowess, it seems.

Unfortunately, no release date nor price for Dying Light The Beast has been announced, with just a 'Wishlist Now' banner appearing during the reveal trailer. However, considering the title is an expanded DLC, we'd imagine it would be cheaper than the original Dying Light duo. Fortunately, for those looking to play some Dying Light 2 ahead of The Beast's launch, the new Dying Light 2 Tower Raid looks like an exciting time to return to the slasher.
