We're still months away from the arrival of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, but a new interview with producers involved in the title has given fans tons of new details to be excited about. Streamers Sofian Le GEEK and Yekais Novachrono had the opportunity to speak to Dragon Ball Sparking Zero producer Jun Furutani as well as series producer Ryo Mito about the title at Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour in Los Angeles.
The details of the interview were then relayed to Laun Le Mal who summarized several key points that were subsequently translated from French into English by ShonenGames. While there's always a risk of a few details being lost in translation, if accurate we've got some very promising new details about Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.
Dragon Ball Sparking Zero Release Window, GT and Movies Roster Update
This latest interview has given players lots of new aspects to consider, but most importantly they've now given us a targeted release window. The producers stressed that they want to avoid a rushed release, so they could push the release date for Dragon Ball Sparking Zero if an early target would risk them dropping an unfinished or unpolished title.
If all goes according to plan, the Dragon Ball Sparking Zero release window is currently set for late 2024 or early 2025. That gives players plenty of time to get excited about the title, and the producers also stated multiple trailers are on the way in the coming months showcasing various new features. However, they did also state the cover art is ready to go and matches older Dragon Ball art styles like that of Nakatsuru.
As for the Dragon Ball Sparking Zero roster, we've got good news for anyone who feared it would be all Goku and Vegeta. Producers on the game stated that Dragon Ball GT are planned for either the base roster or a post-launch DLC, and that will include fusions like Gogeta, Vegito, and Gotenks.
On top of that, the Dragon Ball movies are on the table with a mention of Gohan Beast being possible as a member of the roster. The most recent Dragon Ball movies have veered closer to aligning with canon, but with GT on the table we could even see unique characters or forms from the earliest Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z films.
Dragon Ball Sparking Zero Features, Story Mode, and more
We've also learned a good bit about the Dragon Ball Sparking Zero features that fans can look forward to as well as one that likely won't be coming this time around. Fighter outfits will deteriorate during fights, which are built to last longer than they have in past games.
In what may be the most important detail for classic Budokai Tenkaichi fans, there will be a complete story mode in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero. The plan is for it to directly follow-up what players experienced in Budokai Tenkaichi 3, but it's not clear yet if this will be pure sequel or remaster some areas of past story modes as well.
Graphics and overall immersion continues to be refined, with background upgrades and improvements that addressed criticisms of fighter hair in previous trailers. Sadly, the beloved local split-screen option probably won't be coming to Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.
The source of that problem may actually be down to Sony and Microsoft. The producers stated that developers are seeking a solution, but challenges from those two major companies may be intentional to push the sale of additional consoles. They also stated adapting to the Xbox Series S has been particularly difficult, likely connected to the lower specs of that console in comparison to the Xbox Series X.
At this point, players can settle in for a months long build. Dragon Ball Sparking Zero could be almost a year away, but development is in high gear as they make sure the long-anticipated follow-up in the Budokai Tenkaichi series can live up to the expectations of die-hard Dragon Ball fans.
