First Dragon Ball Sparking Zero DLC Adds 4 Gohans, 4 Piccolos, and 0 Pans

While Dragon Ball Sparking Zero arrived with an already extensive and deep roster of playable characters, it was announced well before launch that additional DLC would be coming at a later date. Part of this was because a future DLC packs will be tied to Dragon Ball DAIMA, which is still airing and not fully revealed. However, the spotlight for the first Dragon Ball Sparking Zero DLC turns towards the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero film and its two beloved leads.

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero DLC Adds 11 New Playable Characters

The main additions already expected for the Dragon Ball Sparking Zero Hero of Justice DLC were Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. While several other key characters from the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero film seemed likely, nothing was fully confirmed until the official DLC trailer released.

All 11 new forms joining the Dragon Ball Sparking Zero roster were showcased at least briefly, and it's clear that Gohan and Piccolo are the main focus of this DLC. With the list now confirmed, 8 of the 11 new characters are versions of Gohan or Piccolo with each getting 4 new forms. The others are new characters and an additional Cell form from the movie, but there's unfortunately no new version for Gohan's daughter Pan. While she is featured in the film, it looks like players will just have to make do with the GT version of Pan for the time being.

Piccolo got his first major form change in years with the introduction of Orange Piccolo when they were pitted against Cell Max. The same is true for Gohan, who not only channeled familiar forms like Super Saiyan 2 and Ultimate Gohan but developed an entirely new one. Gohan (Beast) channeled the initial transformation of Teen Gohan into his Super Saiyan 2 form, which also came in a clash with Cell. In addition to the new characters, an additional alternate outfit will be added of Piccolo in a Red Ribbon Army disguise from the Super Hero movie.

Every new addition provides an interesting wrinkle in the existing balance of Sparking Zero characters, but the biggest wild cards are likely Orange Piccolo and Cell Max. There are only a handful of Giant Form characters already in Sparking Zero, and they can make a huge impact on battle strategies. If Orange Piccolo can transform mid-battle into Orange Piccolo (Giant), that will also provide a unique new path for players who want the potential of a Giant Form character with the versatility of returning to normal form if necessary.

The Dragon Ball Sparking Zero DLC 1 Hero of Justice Pack is set to go live for early access on January 20, 2025 at 3pm PST. Early access is likely going to be provided to players with the Season Pass that ordered a deluxe edition of Sparking Zero, but the wide release date is set for January 24, 2025 around the same time.
