How To Fish In Don't Starve Together
If you're looking to start fishing in Don't Starve Together, you'll first need to craft yourself a fishing rod. Once that's done, you can move on to heading out on a fishing trip.
Craft A Fishing Rod
There are two types of fishing rods in Don't Starve Together: the basic fishing rod, and the sea fishing rod. Which one you use dictates what kind of fish you can catch, where you can fish, and how durable the rod is. The sea fishing rod also allows you to equip things like lures and floats, while the basic fishing rod does not.
Here's a look at the two types of rods, how you make them, and where you can fish using them:
Type Of Rod | Recipe | Fishing Location |

Also, note that to craft the Basic Fishing Rod - or the Sea Fishing Rod later on - you'll need a Science Machine.
Find A Water Source
So you've crafted your fishing rod - now it's time to get out there and see what you can catch! If you want to fish at the pond, you can find many of these bodies of water around swamps, marshlands, and forests. To fish here, you won't need anything else other than your trusty fishing pole.
To fish at the ocean, of course, you'll need to head to the shore; to go out there and cast your line. You can also venture out on a boat if you want to catch even bigger fish, but we'll touch more on that later.
Go Fishing!
Whether you're fishing at the ocean or at a pond, you'll need to walk up to an area where you can see fish swimming around in the water. You'll then be prompted to throw in your line. From there, you'll wait until the fish bites and pull it in. The timing is what's important here, much like in Stardew Valley. Once you get the hang of it, though, it's not a hard endeavor.
If you're fishing at the ocean, though, things can get a little tricky. You'll need to actually look at your fishing rod itself, including how much give you have left, and adjust accordingly. It's actually a lot like Red Dead Redemption 2's fishing mechanics, though a lot more simple. If your rod is tight, the fish is pulling on the line and might break it, so you need to stop reeling or at least slow down. If your line is loose, you have plenty of room to keep on reeling in.
Bonus Tip - Craft A Boat
You can catch most fish using the methods we've outlined above. That said, there are some fish that you won't be able to catch from the shore, so you'll need to build a boat if you want to find them. All you'll need is 4 Boards. Once you craft it, just hop on the boat and follow the same process for catching fish as you do on the shore - looking for an outline of a fish in the water, and then casting in your line.
That concludes our guide on how to catch fish in Don't Starve Together. There are several different methods for catching fish, as there are many different types in the game.
