Dead by Daylight's Lights Out mode is coming back after many fans requested its return, but it has some substantial changes from the initial run. These changes come in response to fan feedback and apply what developers learned from the mode's first iteration. Here's what survivors and killers can expect from the new Lights Out mode, including its start and end dates, and how gameplay differs this time.

Lights Out Mode Dates

The Lights Out mode turns the lights off for both killers and survivors.

The Lights Out modifier will come back to Dead by Daylight starting on 12 September at 8 AM PDT / 11 AM EDT / 4 PM BST / 5 PM CST.  It'll last until 19 September, meaning that the mode will be in the game this time for one week.

This information comes from Dead by Daylight's new September roadmap, which also unveils information about the return of another mode, Chaos Shuffle.

The first iteration of the Lights Out mode came out back in February, letting survivors and killers try out trials in the darkness for the first time.

It's unknown whether this iteration of the mode will include limited-time rewards and an event tome like the first iteration, or if the original event tome and rewards may make their return. This would give players who didn't get to try out the mode the first time an opportunity to get those rewards now.

Lights Out Mode Gameplay

Dead by Daylight's Lights Out mode does just what its name implies - darkens the map and makes it a bit harder for survivors and killers to see - but this new iteration also offers some further modified gameplay, leaks suggest.

Dead by Daylight leaker dvveet announced that players will be able to "pick up and place lanterns down at generators," likely providing some much-needed light for survivors to perform their repairs. However, killers will be able to kick over those lanterns, rendering it difficult for survivors to see yet again.

It's possible that this iteration of Lights Out could contain even more changes to gameplay than we've heard about thus far, which could definitely add some room for new, diverse plays on both sides. For now, though, that's all we know about the upcoming iteration of Lights Out in Dead by Daylight. Killers and survivors alike will be able to try out the returning mode in a little over a week.
