Dead by Daylight's Deep Wound Mechanic Gets a Visual Overhaul

Changes to the Deep Wound status effect will make it easier for players to identify when they're bleeding out.

If you've ever been in a trial against a Legion, only to find that your solo queue teammate doesn’t quite understand the urgency of Deep Wound and ends up bleeding out on the ground after trying to work on a generator, Dead by Daylight's new Deep Wound update seeks to make that a thing of the past.

In the upcoming 8.5.0 update, Behaviour Interactive is making changes to how the Deep Wound status effect is communicated to players. The darkening vignette that currently signals the effect will be removed, and in its place, a new progress bar will be introduced for both Deep Wound and Mending. This, developers say, will give players a much clearer and more immediate visual cue of how much time they have left to heal before the effect takes hold.

The change is particularly intended for newer players who may not fully understand the importance of Mending in time. With the new progress bars, players will be able to track their status and take action more effectively, preventing new survivors from exhausting their Deep Wound bar and wondering why they've ended up on the ground.

This update is part of Dead by Daylight's ongoing focus on improving accessibility and ensuring players have the information they need to make better decisions under pressure. Other updates, like the visual Terror Radius added back in 2023, seek to make it easier for players to quickly understand their in-game status. The 8.5.0 update is set to roll out soon, and it’s a change that should bring more clarity to one of the game’s most pressing mechanics.
