Dead by Daylight's upcoming Alan Wake chapter doesn't contain a killer, but it's possible that a killer from the Alan Wake franchise could be added to Dead by Daylight in the future. Dead by Daylight's Senior Creative Director, Dave Richard, said at a press conference that an Alan Wake killer could be added "maybe later." He also explained why a killer from Alan Wake isn't in the game's current PTB or upcoming chapter, despite the plethora of monsters in the series.
"[When working on the Alan Wake chapter], we were navigating on Alan Wake 1, so for us, Scratch, or the Dark Place itself, was potentially a killer we could have," said Dave Richard, Senior Creative Director for Dead by Daylight. Scratch is the major antagonist in the Alan Wake series, and is Wake's doppelganger.
"But it's too close to the Entity, too powerful - we said no, it's not a great thing now. But now that I've played Alan Wake 2, there's all kinds of great monsters I would've liked to include. So maybe later."
While Alan Wake 2 features the return of iconic antagonist Scratch, there are also other terrifying monsters like the Diver, Cynthia Weaver, or the Nightingale, that could be featured in Dead by Daylight.
Both Richard and Kyle Rowley, Alan Wake's Game Director, agreed that future collaborations could be an option for both the DBD and Alan Wake teams. While there's nothing confirmed right now, the idea of another Alan Wake x Dead by Daylight collaboration definitely opens up the door to some interesting possibilities for future killers in Dead by Daylight.
Dead by Daylight's Alan Wake chapter will release on 30 January 2024, letting players experience The Fog through the eyes of Alan Wake.
