The next Disney Dreamlight Valley update is delivering an icon that predates even Mickey Mouse.

An early teaser for the next Disney Dreamlight Valley update has finally arrived, and their newest character is going to be a surprising one for many gamers. As part of the second installment in the Disney Dreamlight Valley: A Rift in Time paid expansion, the game is adding one of the first characters ever created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, who first appeared in the 1927 animated short Trolley Troubles, is coming to Disney Dreamlight Valley nearly a century after that debut.

After kicking off their paid expansion earlier this year with Gaston and EVE becoming newly unlockable characters, the villain of A Rift in Time being Jafar from Aladdin certainly pointed towards speculation that the DLC could soon add Aladdin himself or Genie. While those are still very real possibilities for Act 3, which will conclude A Rift in Time, they've gone with someone entirely different for Act 2.

The Spark of Imagination will feature the Disney Dreamlight Valley debut of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. First created in the earliest cartoons of the late 1920s and seen in several of that age, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit essentially became a lost character for decades as Universal retained ownership of it after a falling out with Walt Disney.

Walt Disney responded by creating a new character he retained ownership of, a little known cartoon star called Mickey Mouse. After popping up a handful of times through the years, one of his final Universal appearances was in the Brazil-only 1995 Sega Master System release Férias Frustradas do Pica-Pau starring Woody the Woodpecker.

After Disney finally reacquired the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in 2006, he became a central character in the Wii game Epic Mickey and its sequels. When he arrives in Disney Dreamlight Valley, that'll mark Oswald's (lucky) 13th video game appearance for Disney. An exact release date for the next Disney Dreamlight Valley update has not been announced, but we'll get a more extensive preview of this new update on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.
