It's no secret that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has been one of the biggest releases for Activision in a long time, but it’s also arguably one of the most plagued by issues from the developer, bar none. So, when the devs recently released some hype to promote their new Squid Game 2 skins, fans quickly retaliated with criticism, essentially calling the developers tone-deaf. Let’s break down the details below.

In a recent post on X by the official Call of Duty account, the developers shared a brief clip promoting a new store bundle inspired by the VIPs from Squid Game 2 now available for the game. However, given the current struggles with server quality, cheaters, and various performance and gameplay issues, players were confused about the focus of the developers' efforts.

Players quickly took to the comments to criticize the decision. Content creator FaZe Swagg urged Activision to "read the room," while news account CharlieIntel remarked, "Ranked play is so broken that some people can only play 4 games in 4 hours, but new bundles are more important, right? Got it."

It’s important to note that the players complaining are still actively playing, despite their frustrations, while many others have already quit due to the gameplay issues that drain the fun. This is puzzling because Activision has the resources to address these problems but seems to be prioritizing skins and cosmetics for the remaining players - who, for the most part, are uninterested and just want the game to improve.

While we don’t have a full picture of what the future holds for Black Ops 6, the developers may be planning to address these concerns in the new year. However, if this is how they’re kicking things off, it raises concerns about the game’s future, and many players share these concerns. We’ll have to wait and see how the developers respond to this backlash, as it reflects the broader sentiment of the player base. Hopefully, they’ll listen this time.
