With Assassin's Creed Shadows' release around one week away, publisher Ubisoft has provided players with more information regarding the game's release on 20th March 2025. From confirmation of an expansion, the Claws of Awaji, available later in the year to overhaul the game's Parkour system and Achievements; another detail was confirmed on social media that will be supported at launch.
This news came from the game's official Twitter account, which revealed that players on Steam Deck could run Assassin's Creed Shadows upon its release this month. However, as for its verification status, the publisher has provided some information, and a follow-up is to be expected closer to launch or post-launch.
The Steam Deck gaming handheld allows PC players to play PC games anywhere, anytime, and access the Steam storefront from the palms of their hands. Depending on the title, it also enables the cross-platform cloud save feature, allowing players to start their gaming adventures on the Steam deck and pick up their progress on their gaming PC, and this may be the case for Assassin's Creed Shadows.
Ubisoft posted to the official Assassin's Creed Twitter account on 12th March 2025 that due to multiple players' requests in the lead-up to the game's launch, Assassin's Creed Shadows will run on the Steam Deck when it releases. While this may be great news for Steam Deck owners, there is a slight catch as we await more updates.
"We are happy to say that we are supporting Steam Deck at launch and are currently awaiting the level of classification from Valve. More info to come soon," the publisher stated in a Twitter post.
While Assassin's Creed Shadows is playable for the Steam Deck at launch and is awaiting its "Verified" status from Valve, players may need to manually adjust a handful of settings to get the game running as smoothly as possible. Until then, we'll continue to follow this story as we await further details regarding Assassin's Creed Shadows' verification status for the Steam Deck ahead of its release on 20th March 2025 for consoles, PC, and, of course, the Steam Deck.
