The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is one of the most anticipated games for 2023. The game was announced a couple of years ago and since then, fans have been awaiting the release of this brand-new Zelda title. Because the game coming out very soon, fans are starting to ask a lot of questions about Tears of the Kingdom.
In a recent gameplay trailer, we got to see that Link will get various new powers in Tears of the Kingdom. With all of the trailers, it looks like Tears of the Kingdom will play out very similarly to Breath of the Wild. But are traditional dungeons making a comeback to Tears of the Kingdom? We discuss that here.

Are Dungeons Coming Back To Tears Of The Kingdom?
To be clear, there were dungeons in Breath of the Wild. The Divine Beast and Zelda's Castle were dungeons however, they were not like old Zelda Dungeons. The Dungeons in Breath of the Wild all felt very similar to each other and in the past, they were all distinctly unique. But will traditional dungeons return in Tears of the Kingdom? Taking a look at one of the official trailers can give us a hint.
In the third official trailer, Ganondorf has returned and in his return, he has reshaped the land and many structures rose up from the ground. These structures looked a bit different from the shrines as they looked much older in their architecture. In the Zelda series, dungeons took on many different forms however, these buildings do look similar to older dungeons. From a recent Q&A done by Nintendo, it does seem like Traditional Dungeons are returning.
More Evidence That Points To Dungeons Returning To Tears Of The Kingdom
There are a lot of good reasons to say dungeons might be returning to Tears of the Kingdom. From one trailer alone, you can tell that there are going to be a lot of unique bosses in Tears of the Kingdom. One of the bosses appears to be a three-headed dragon (a Gleeok) that you will need to defeat.
On top of the unique bosses that are in the trailer, there are also some unique-looking items that have never been seen before as well. During the trailer, Link is wearing what appears to be a flight suit of some kind while falling through many lasers that need to be avoided.
I the most recent Q&A done with the developers of Tears of the Kingdom, they mentioned that to enter a dungeon, players will have to make a long fall through obstacles to reach it. It seems like they were referencing the picture above.
In past Zelda games, every dungeon will award players with a unique item or power. In that dungeon, you will need to use that item or power to make it past the puzzles that are in the dungeon as well. This was not really the case that happened in Breath of the Wild as players actually did not have too many unique items in that title.
However, the existence of the flight suit, the structures that appeared during the trailer, and the unique bosses all indicate that traditional Zelda dungeons will be returning. How that will look has yet to be seen. If we had to guess, Tears of the Kingdom will function like The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds where you can take on traditional dungeons in any order. Either way, Traditional Dungeons are confirmed to return to Tears of the Kingdom.
