Attention, World of Warcraft (WoW) fans! If you want to play The War Within's beta right now, there's a way you can jump in and test out a tonne of new content for the upcoming expansion.

How To Play The War Within Beta Today

Unless you fall under the "friends and family" category at Blizzard, or you are a community veteran/press, or maybe run a fansite, you might not have access to The War Within's beta, which only began on 5 June 2024.

To guarantee yourself a spot in The War Within's beta, you can open your wallet and purchase the Epic Edition of World of Warcraft's next expansion. That's the only way to start playing today if you haven't received a lucky invite. Head on over to the Battle.net store and spend $89.99 on the Epic Edition, pre-ordering the expansion alongside a bunch of in-game goodies.

Please note: Both the Standard and Heroic Editions do NOT include access to the beta.

How To Install The War Within Beta

Let's say you are lucky enough to have access to The War Within's beta, or you purchased the Epic Edition, and you are ready to jump in, especially after watching the expansion's story trailer...

You will need to download and install the beta client so you can start playing right away. Well, you can follow the official steps from Blizzard below:

Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date.
Run the Battle.net® desktop app—it may need to update itself if you haven't run it recently. If you don't have the app installed, get started here.
Once Battle.net is installed and updated, select World of Warcraft from the list of games.
In the Game Version drop-down menu above the Play button, choose The War Within (listed under In Development) option, then click Install.
Allow installation to complete, click Play, and select any available Test Servers.
Create a new test character or use the character copy to import your existing Dragonflight character.
Enter the game and test the available content.

You do need an active WoW subscription to play The War Within's beta.

How To Play WoW The War Within's Beta For Free

Heroes of Azeroth who do not want to open their wallets or simply cannot afford the rather high price of the Epic Edition of The War Within can always hope they get lucky. Follow the steps below for a chance at getting beta access for free.

Open your favorite browser and head on over to The War Within's website.
Click on the "BETA OPT-IN" button.
Click on "Request Beta Access."
You should sign into your Battle.net account if you are not signed in already to complete the process.

That's it! Now, all you need to do is wait to receive an email invitation, which will direct you to download The War Within's client directly from the Battle.net desktop app. Blizzard does warn about phishing attempts and says you must log into your Battle.net account and head to the "Your Game Accounts" tab, then check if there is a The War Within beta license attached to your account.
