Retro indie-focused developer Digital Eclipse has returned for another epic blockbuster journey with the barbarian lord Volgarr the Viking. The announcement trailer was revealed during the Guerilla Collective digital showcase, which finds the barbarian lord continuing his "bloodbath" debut in a fresh adventure rift with intense encounters, increasingly difficult gameplay, and "new and bigger-than-ever Norse-inspired worlds."
Volgarr the Viking II comes more than ten years following Volgarr the Viking's first outing from developer Crazy Viking Studios, who handed over the keys to Valhalla to Digital Eclipse. The epic saga of Volgarr the Viking will await daring souls when its release date was confirmed during the digital showcase as its slated for an August 2024 launch for consoles and PC.
According to the press release for the announced sequel, "Volgarr the Viking II ups the ante on the original's hardcore 2D side-scrolling action in an expanded odyssey where every playthrough is grislier than the last." The announcement trailer gave the audience a slight sliver of what to expect from the 2D side-scrolling action with intricate level designs and challenging enemy encounters, highlighting how punishing the sequel can be on "how many times you'll die (and die again)."
Players will be tasked with mastering a handful of combat and gameplay features, from Volgarr's combat abilities to understanding enemy attack patterns to better their counterattacks. This will aid players in molding Volgarr to become "a true warrior" and "an indomitable spirit to conquer the unforgiving world."
Volgarr the Viking II will continue the crusade to consoles and PC as it launches on 6th August 2024 for PlayStation 4|5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via GOG and Steam. Pre-orders for the game's digital edition are live for the abovementioned platforms and directly from Digital Eclipse's website.
