Since it was first announced, Twelve Minutes has quickly gotten the attention of gamers around the world.
The game has been developed by Luis Antonio, a former artist from Rockstar Games and Ubisoft. Luis left these big video game companies to pursue an independent game development career and Twelve Minutes is his first solo game.
The game was first revealed during the 2015 PAX East event, but it wasn't until the Xbox press conference during E3 2019 that Twelve Minutes has become one of the most anticipated indie titles.
After a period of hard work in silence, the game is now finally ready to be released, to the delight of many intrigued fans.
Let's check out what we know about Twelve Minutes.
What is Twelve Minutes?
Twelve Minutes is a top-down adventure game. The main character (controlled by a player) is locked in a time loop that lasts exactly for 12 minutes, both in-game and in real life.
The gameplay is tightly connected with the loop and the player will need to use mechanics in the style of a point-and-click adventure game to try to find clues about what's going on and how to solve all this mess.
What's the story of Twelve Minutes?
The main premise of the story (these are not spoilers, don't worry, you will find out this immediately upon starting the game) is that a husband (main character) learns that his wife is pregnant, but shortly after, a police officer knocks on the door and wants to arrest your wife over the alleged killing of her father. This quickly takes a wrong turn and the police officer kills your wife and unborn child with a gun.
"What should be a romantic evening with your wife turns into a nightmare when a police detective breaks into your home, accuses your wife of murder and beats you to death," says the official description of the story.
Twelve Minutes gameplay
Twelve Minutes gameplay is rather rudimentary, and developers describe the game as "a real-time top-down interactive thriller with an accessible click and drag interface."
Players will be able to move around the house (including the main living and kitchen area, their bedroom, and bathroom) in search of clues and solutions to get out of this nightmarish time loop while saving both the wife and themselves. The game's mechanics are similar to point-and-click adventures, but they won't be as complex, and they will be more in a line with Telltale Games titles.
While the game is set around the 12-minute time loop, it has been confirmed that it will take a player between 6 and 8 hours to complete the game.
Twelve Minutes voice actors
One particularly appealing thing about the game is that it features a trio of well-known actors: James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley, and Willem Dafoe.
Provided that the quality of writing is good, the high-quality voice acting will take the whole experience to the next level, which is really important considering that this is a narrative-driven game.
Twelve Minutes system requirements
The game's visuals are rather minimalist and undemanding, and you will not have trouble playing this game on any PC from the last decade or so.
