Sega has announced a bunch of new Sonic The Hedgehog titles and celebrations for his 30th anniversary, including a brand new game.
The major announcement during their first Sonic Central showcase was Sonic Colors Ultimate, a remastered version of the 2010 Nintendo Wii title.
Sonic Colors Ultimate will feature revamped visuals, a new mode and “improved gameplay enhancements” according to Sega. It will be released on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on 7th September.
A two-part animated tie-in called Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps will also release in the summer.
The other big news is a new Sonic game is in development from Sonic Team, teased through a very brief clip. It doesn’t show barely anything except for Sonic himself, and a 2022 release window. You can check out the clip at the end of the presentation below.
A collection of classic games called Sonic Origins will also release this year, featuring the first three Sonic titles, Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic CD.
Sonic is also appearing in a bunch of Sega titles, including a playable version of Sonic Fighters in Yakuza spin-off Lost Judgment and Sonic DLC in Two Point Hospital releasing 30th July.
There’s also an anniversary virtual concert taking place on 23rd June with an orchestra doing covers of classic Sonic tracks, if that’s your bag. There’ll be a sneak peek of the gig at Summer Games Fest starting next month.
