After several weeks of rumours and a long wait from Nintendo Switch users, The big N has confirmed that titles of the mythical Nintendo 64 along with Sega Genesis will be available on the hybrid console.
During their most recent Nintendo Direct, the Japanese company announced the games of both retro consoles will be part of the growing catalogue of its online subscription service, Nintendo Switch Online.
The subscription service currently has NES and SNES titles as part of its benefits, as well as gives players the option to save their game saves in the cloud, and enables online multiplayer on many of the console's titles.
Among some of the titles revealed by Nintendo are gems like Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Mario Tennis. Below you can see the complete list of these shared in the Direct.
Many other iconic games like Pokémon Snap, F-Zero X, Paper Mario and Banjo-Kazooie are planned to be added to this list in the future.
New Switch Online membership plan announced
With the arrival of these titles to the console, Nintendo Switch Online will also undergo a significant change, since the N64 and Sega Genesis games will not be available from its normal membership plan, but will be added to a special section.
Under the name of Expansion Pack (in reference to the well-known accessory of the N64), this new subscription plan will include all the benefits of the normal membership, plus unlimited access to these classic games.
So far, the cost of this new plan hasn’t been disclosed, neither if there will be any change in the price of the current membership.
But, what has been revealed is that along with the arrival of these titles, Nintendo will release a couple of new wireless controllers, identical to those launched during the release of the consoles, and that will be compatible with all titles added in the Switch Online catalogue. Both will cost $ 49.99 USD each.
The new Nintendo Switch Online membership plan along with the N64 and Sega Genesis titles will be available during late October 2021.
