The Marvel Universe is set to grow, thanks to the unexpected reveal of Marvel's Midnight Suns during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live.
Developed by 2K and Firaxis Games, makers of the iconic XCOM franchise, Marvel's Midnight Suns will be a new tactical RPG set on the darker side of the Marvel Universe.
Marvel's Midnight Suns: Development and first details
In Marvel's Midnight Suns, players will face the demonic forces of the underworld as you team up and coexist with the Midnight Suns, the last line of defence on Earth.
This will bring about a roster of heroes and antiheroes from all over Marvel, bringing together characters like Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, and Wolverine on a single battlefield for a common goal.
According to revelations through Polygon, “in Marvel's Midnight Suns, players will take on the role of The Hunter, an all-new character designed in partnership with Marvel Comics, who will stand in for the player, and will be highly customizable. in both appearance and combat ability."
Players will have the ability to choose from over 40 different superpowers, all based on the different abilities of the playable characters in the title.
Thus, your Hunter will embark on a heroic journey along with three other heroes of your choosing, while you try to stop Lilith and her minions from destroying the world.
As confirmed by Jake Solomon, development lead at Firaxis Games, Marvel's Midnight Suns won’t have permadeath enabled “because the fantasy is very different [to XCOM]”.
