Publisher Electronic Arts is planning to implement some changes to its subscription service, EA Play, according to a new report. The service launched in 2014 before becoming available for PC in 2020, and these changes will affect all subscription tiers, which will take effect on 10th May 2024.
The report, which GamesIndustry.biz published, revealed that EA Play subscription tiers will see a price hike for its standard and Pro subscriptions. Furthermore, all subscribers will be notified of these changes in an email distributed on 10th April 2024 before the new pricing is applied.
Based on the GamesIndustry.biz report, the standard EA Play subscription will increase from $4.99 / £3.99 to $5.99 / £5.99 monthly, and the annual pricing has been raised from $29.99 / £19.99 to $39.99 / £35.99. The standard subscription tier allows players to play select new releases for ten hours before their launch while gaining unique membership rewards and accessing its massive library featuring over 100 EA-published titles.
Conversely, the EA Play Pro lets them play Premium editions of new releases before launch, membership rewards, and a library of Premium editions of EA titles and "fan-favorite series." This subscription tier pricing will be hiked from $14.99 / £14.99 to $16.99 / £16.99 monthly and $99.99 / £89.99 to $119.99 / £109.99 for their annual subscription.
EA cited that these changes were considered and made to accommodate "currency value" changes so they are in order with the market price. As mentioned, these price increases will be effective from 10th May 2024, as subscription members will be notified beforehand.
