It has been almost eight years since developer System Era Softworks released their open-world survival game Astroneer, which saw multiple patch updates, events, and more added post-launch. But in a surprise announcement, the developer revealed that the game will receive its first-ever expansion, Glitchwalkers, which becomes available this November.

Glitchwalkers focuses on a new location with a brand new story that can be experienced either as a solo player or with friends. The Glitchwalkers expansion is available to add to Wishlists for consoles and PC ahead of its release, and the developer teased a few key details that will be included with the DLC at launch.

Blasting into orbit for PC via Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles on 13th November 2024, Glitchwalkers is the first content expansion for Astroneer. Accompanying the announcement is a tumultuous new trailer showcasing what lies ahead for explorers, including a new planet, Aeoluz, which features new biomes and cave systems to investigate and a new tech tree and modules to aid with gameplay progression.

While there's not much we know about the new planet other than it was birthed amidst the glitched solar system, they'll tackle the expansion's story as they'll be introduced to a new character, Lyn. This new character has been tampering with the Astroneer Training Program (ATP) code which, together with Elysium’s Chief Maintenance Officer, Frank, they'll have to do everything humanly possible to halt Lyn's plans, but there is a curveball that they must face head-on.

Storms are returning to Astroneer, which can add a wrinkle in our plans to thwart Lyn's plans of fracturing the ATP from within, and as such, these storms can be proven to be a significant issue. These glitched storms can threaten our character as we have to circumvent these 'digital tempests" from hacking, as it can deter us from completing our mission and stopping Lyn and her outrageous plans.

Together with the Glitchwalkers DLC, the developer will release a free content update for the base game that adds plenty of Quality-of-Life (QoL) improvements, much-needed bug fixes, and new gameplay mechanics. New and returning explorers can diarise 13th November 2024 for the release of Astroneer's Glitchwalkers DLC and weather out the glitched storms and defeat a rogue enemy with all the building, crafting, and exploring features and mechanics they've come to know and love.
