Multiple Game Changers players have requested Riot to introduce mixed gender tournaments, to help them get more exposure. Riot announced multiple new rules to encourage participation of GC teams in VCT and now, they are back with a surprise reveal.
They have unveiled VCT OFF//SEASON Spotlight Series, which will be a mixed gender tournament, starting off with an online setting, but will conclude as a LAN event at Paris Games Week. The event will run online from October 10 to 16 and the Grand Finale will be held on October 24, featuring The Main Stage, with capacity for 2000 spectators.
“We are extremely excited to bring VALORANT Game Changers on the road for the first time and to introduce a mixed gender tournament to the 2024 VALORANT Esports calendar at Paris Games Week," said Daniel Ringland, Head of Valorant Esports EMEA. “Our ambition with Game Changers is to create new opportunities for women in our ecosystem, and we hope these events will help us accelerate towards a future where all players are competing side by side at the highest level.”
VCT OFF//SEASON Spotlight Series will be an invitational event, featuring 14 VCT and Challengers teams, who are actively investing in the GC scene. Each team participating in the tournament will need to have at least two GC players on their mixed gender teams.
These teams will be competing for a prize pool of €30,000 and will follow a double elimination bracket. Teams will be seeded based on their previous results and top two seeded teams will get a buy to the second round.
Riot will reveal more information about VCT OFF//SEASON Spotlight Series in the upcoming weeks.
