How Long Will Subnautica 2 Be in Early Access?

Unknown Worlds and KRAFTON, Inc. have officially announced Subnautica 2, having unveiled the underwater sequel during a recent Xbox Partner Preview showcase. The upcoming title is set to launch in Early Access in 2025, coming to Steam, Epic Games Store, and Windows Store and via Game Preview on Xbox Series X|S with Xbox Game Pass. 

But how long, exactly, will Subnautica 2 be in Early Access before it's full release?

When Does Subnautica 2 Leave Early Access?

According to the Subnautica 2 official Steam page, the developers have said, "It is difficult to accurately predict how long Early Access will last. Based on previous Early Access games we have developed, we expect it to take about 2 to 3 years."

The post continued, "We have a number of goals that we are adamantly working towards. We are focusing on delivering quality at a reasonable pace. At the end of the day, we're dedicated to completing Subnautica 2 and making it the best game possible.”

The new game will introduce players to a new alien ocean world to explore, filled with new biomes, creatures, materials, and more. Players will be relying on their survival skills to get by, through crafting tools, synthesizing food, and building bases.

For the first time, Subnautica 2 will also include multiplayer co-op, allowing players to experience the ocean's secrets together. 

"Our goal for the full version of Subnautica 2 is a more polished, feature rich version of the game with more content than at Early Access release," the devs said. "Throughout Early Access, we plan to release a number of updates that add new content to the game — Such as more biomes, creatures, craftables, features, and narratives."
