Publisher Zynga's forthcoming team-based battle arena shooter, Star Wars Hunters, has finally received a release date. The shooter game, first revealed during the Nintendo Direct presentation in February 2021 and developed by NaturalMotion Games, was initially set to be released within that year; however, it subsequently suffered multiple delays.
Zynga and Lucasfilm Games have announced that the team-based battle arena shooter is reentering the Galaxy as it's slated for release on 4th June 2024. The game, which will be free-to-play (F2P), will be available for selected platforms, and pre-registration is now live for these platforms ahead of its launch.
Star Wars Hunters is a F2P team-based battle arena shooter set after the collapse of the Galactic Empire. Players will squad up "in thrilling, team-based multiplayer battles" across iconic Star Wars locations, including Endor, Hoth, and more, and have access to a roster of unique characters or "Hunters" or create their own.
According to an interview with Zynga art director Dominic Estephane, he was inspired mainly by professional wrestling, which is reflected in these characters and their "personas." Eager to utilize his professional wrestling knowledge for the game's development, Estephane added that these Hunters are "larger-than-life personalities, similar to pro wrestling."
The game will feature 13 playable Hunters, including the Jedi droid, J-3DI, the Jawa scavengers Utooni, the Wookie Grozz, and a Mandalorian Vanguard, Aran Tal. As it's a team-based battle arena shooter, there are multiple game modes to battle it out with friends or other players online, including Dynamic Control, Squad Brawl, and Trophy Chase, to name a few.
Pre-registration is now available for Nintendo Switch consoles, Android, and iOS devices, as the game will launch on 4th June 2024. Furthermore, those who've pre-registered will enjoy exclusive rewards, including an emote, a costume, a new weapon, and two Avatars, while Nintendo Switch owners will receive an exclusive costume and wrap at launch.
