The Silent Hill 2 remake is inching closer to its release date, which means more information about this reimagined horror classic is surfacing. Fans have mixed opinions about everything shown in the remake thus far, with many concerned about Bloober Team’s approach to this beloved title.
With new gameplay previews now coming out, fans might have to accept that this will be a different interpretation of Konami’s iconic survival horror game. Although these previews have the original game’s spirit and gorgeous visuals, some changes will divide players.
VGC has released a video showing 30 minutes of Silent Hill 2 remake gameplay from the PS5 version. This remake takes plenty of cues from Capcom’s recent Resident Evil titles. Protagonist James Sunderland is now controlled with an over-the-shoulder camera, similar to the original Resident Evil 4 and its remake.
James is also more capable in combat, which has been a controversial change for many players. On one hand, this means that the game will feel better for most players, especially those who love Capcom’s horror titles. However, this makes James feel less like a normal person who wandered into a town of horrors and more like an action hero, which many fans were worried about.
Changes have also been made to the game’s atmosphere, with some of the scares being less subtle than the PS2 original. When James enters Silent Hill, he will see the familiar fog blocking some of the player’s view, making threats feel unpredictable. Some of that unpredictability goes out of the window quickly, as loud noises, creepy pamphlets, and visible monsters make the supposed terror feel more blunt.
Konami is releasing the Silent Hill 2 remake this October 8, meaning the previews are near-final versions of the finished product. With the game coming out soon, fans can get their hands on this remake and adequately judge the decisions made in due time.
