Sea of Thieves had a rocky start when it initially released back in 2018, but with both Microsoft's help, adding the action-adventure title to Game Pass, and Rare's commitment to long-time support, SoT has thrived in the years post-release, with 2021 bringing Seasons and a Battle Pass system.
Information is still very scarce, however, we'll compile everything you need to know as more gets released.

Sea of Thieves Season 1 - Start time

We know the official date for Season 1 of Sea of Thieves launch is this upcoming 28th January. Each season will last approximately three months, with new content dropping at the start of each, with Rare shifting from monthly drops.
Creative Director Mike Chapman revealed that on top of the initial content at the start of each season, players can expect "regular and featured live events and quality of life patches."
With this change in approach, fans of Arena, the PvP focused mode in Sea of Thieves will not get any future updates, as the devs revealed at least 97% of the player base spends their time in Adventure, the core mode of SoT.
Sea of Thieves Season 1 - Plunder Pass

For the first time in SoT's history, a battle pass system will debut with Season 1. Like most, there's a free version of it with cosmetic rewards for your character, ship, and more.
The premium version is called the Plunder Pass. This will have exclusive items and offers from the Pirate Emporium.
