Gligar was originally introduced in Generation II of Pokémon, hailing from the Johto region. It’s a Ground and Flying-type bat that’s fairly weak on its own. For this reason, Game Freak decided to give Gligar an evolution with the release of Pokémon Platinum. This evolution is Gliscor, one of the most menacing Pokémon to come out of Generation IV.
Both of these Pokémon are available in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl but can’t be found until much later in the game. Also, Gliscor has a tricky evolution that players won’t be able to figure out without a proper guide.
Before they can think about Gliscor, though, players need to know how to catch Gligar in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Catching Gligar in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
The only requirement that you need in order to encounter Gligar in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is to reach Eterna City. Once here, you can enter the house to the right of the Pokémon Center to get the Explorer’s Kit from the Underground Man. This allows you to go into the Grand Underground and discover a whole other section of the Pokédex.
With Gligar in particular, though, you need to have a copy of Brilliant Diamond. Shining Pearl players will need to trade with a Brilliant Diamond player to acquire Gligar. If you have Brilliant Diamond, you can head into the Grand Underground and go into any one of the following caves to encounter the Pokémon:
- Rocky Cave
- Spacious Cave
- Swampy Cave
- Sunlit Cavern
- Big Bluff Cavern
- Bogsunk Cavern
Once you encounter Gligar in any one of these caves, you can catch it and add it to your team. However, to evolve it into Gliscor, you’ll need to wait until the post-game. You can find the Razor Fang item in the post-game, which you need to give to Gligar. Then, you need to level Gligar up once while holding the item to evolve it into Gliscor.
That’s all you need to know about catching Gligar in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
