In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, there are several held items known as plates. These plates drastically boost a specific move type when given to a Pokémon. Most of the plates can be found across Sinnoh as long as players are diligent in searching the towns and routes. However, one specific plate has given players more trouble than others.
This is the Earth Plate, which boosts Ground-type moves. This is one of the only held items in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl that can power up Ground-type moves. If you want to power up your Ground-type moves but aren’t sure where to find the Earth Plate, keep reading below.
Finding the Earth Plate in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
The first step you’ll need to take to find the Earth Plate is to defeat the Canalave City Gym Leader, Byron. This allows you to use the HM for Strength outside of battle and move big boulders. This HM allows you to access Wayward Cave, among other things, which can reward you with a Gible and the TM for Earthquake. Gible and Earthquake are the perfect combination to pair with the Earth Plate.
Once you’ve defeated Byron, head over to Oreburgh City. You’ll need to use Strength, Surf and Rock Smash, so ensure you have those HMs. In Oreburgh City, head to the Oreburgh Gate, which is found right next to the city. At the gate, head north to reach some descending stairs. Head down them and keep going south until you reach a patch of water you can Surf on.
Use Surf and find a ledge with a trainer wearing red pants on it. Defeat the trainer and go down the stairs. Go to the bottom of the area and to the left of the southernmost brown boulder. There will be an item by that boulder, which contains the Earth Plate. You can give it to any Pokémon with a Ground-type move to power it up and make it deal more damage.
