Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: Teal Mask Chingling Location, How to Evolve into Chimecho

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet continues to expand with the arrival of The Teal Mask, part one in a two-part DLC pack due to add tons of new story and Pokémon to the game. Among the latest returns is Chingling, and the beloved Bell Pokémon is one fans may struggle with getting to evolve.

If you still need to find one, we'll go over the best Chingling location in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and how you can prepare for the evolution process right from the start. We've also got details on exactly how to evolve Chingling into Chimecho once you've acquired one in The Teal Mask DLC.

While a handful of new Pokémon arrived in The Teal Mask DLC, we also tons of returning Pokémon from previous generations. First introduced in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl in the Sinnoh region, Chingling and Chimecho are back in Kitakami.

If you're hoping to capture a Chingling of your own, then Oni Mountain is going to be the cornerstone of that search. While some returning Pokémon like White-Striped Basculin are extremely rare and only found in a single spot, Chingling's habitat in The Teal Mask DLC is actually rather large.

The best place to start would be the Crystal Pool at the top of Oni Mountain. Chingling can spawn right there at times, but players who don't have luck should then follow the downhill path north of Crystal Pool and explore around Oni Mountain. Chingling are mostly drawn to rocky areas, so keep an eye out for this tiny creature.

Once found, you can always go with a Quick Ball for ease of capture, but we recommend the Luxury Ball. With an evolution tied to Friendship, having a ball that boosts it will be a huge help in evolving that Chingling into a Chimecho.

Once you've captured a Chingling, evolving it may be a difficult task. Chimecho is one of the handful of evolutions in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that is tied to Friendship. In order to trigger an evolution, you need to level up Chingling at night when you've got a high Friendship rating.

However, there is a snag players who have already completed the main story may run into. The Teal Mask DLC uses level scaling, so wild Pokémon are significantly stronger if you're already through the late game in Scarlet and Violet.

Unfortunately, Chingling has no egg group and you won't have the option to breed a level one Chingling. Try using the Soothe Bell to boost Friendship, and take Chingling into battle against weaker enemies so you can rack up lots of battles without risking it fainting, as that would ding your Friendship progress.

If you're not sure whether things are quite where you want them, don't forget to utilize the Friendship Checker in Cascarrafa. Showing her your Chingling can be a great way to check your progress before using a Rare Candy or other item to trigger the next level up at night. Finally, you can turn off autosave and save before using a level up item if you want to make sure not to waste one should the Friendship level be lower than is needed to get Chimecho.
