How To Get All Miraidon & Koraidon Abilities In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Learn how to swim, jump, climb, sprint, and glide across Paldea with Koraidon or Miraidon by unlocking their abilities in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.
How To Get All Miraidon & Koraidon Abilities In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Miraidon and Koraidon are Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's companion Pokémon heavily used throughout promoting the games. Once Trainers begin their journey in the Paldea region, they'll understand just how important these Pokémon are to the game's lore.

As you explore the region, you'll discover that they need to regain abilities to improve their strength and progress one of the main story questlines. This guide details how to get each ability for Miraidon and Koraidon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Who Are Miraidon & Koraidon In Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Whether you currently own Scarlet or Violet gives you access to Koraidon (Scarlet) or Miraidon (Violet); if you have the Double Pack, you can pick between the two. These Pokémon are considered Paradox Pokémon, and you'll encounter either in the game's opening moments.

While you can't add them to your Pokédex until the end of the game, they're essential to progressing the Path of Legends campaign. Additionally, they're weakened when you first encounter them, as you can only utilize them like a motorcycle (or bike).

Therefore, they'll need to regain their strength which can be done by defeating a Titan for the Path of Legends campaign. There are five Titans to defeat, each guarding a mystical item, the Herb Mystica, for which, once Koraidon or Miraidon consumes, they can gain new abilities.

As mentioned, you must begin the Path of Legends campaign to unlock new abilities for Miraidon and Koraidon. These abilities allow them to climb, glide, jump, sprint, and swim/surf on top of using them to traverse distances like a bike.

Defeat Dondozo and Tatsugiri, the False Dragon Titan, to gain the ability to climb.

These abilities are beneficial for your progression in Scarlet and Violet, so we suggest starting with this questline first. Likewise, some of these abilities, like gliding and swimming/surfing, can allow you to access previously inaccessible areas.

These abilities will only unlock in a specific order and require a certain level before you can locate and defeat a Titan. To prepare for a battle against a Titan, you can ensure that you have the best Pokémon available to counter its attacks.

First Titan (Klawf, the Stony Cliff Titan):

  • Level Requirements: Level 15 and higher
  • Best Counters: Vulnerable to Water, Steel, Ground, Grass, and Fighting-type Pokémon
  • Ability Unlocked: Sprinting (Dash)

Second Titan (Bombirdier, the Open Sky Titan):

  • Level Requirements: Level 19 and higher
  • Best Counters: Vulnerable to Rock, Ice, Fairy, and Electric-type Pokémon
  • Ability Unlocked: Swimming/Surfing

Third Titan (Orthworm, the Lurking Steel Titan):

  • Level Requirements: Level 28 and higher
  • Best Counters: Vulnerable to Fighting-type Pokémon (as it knows a Ground-type attack)
  • Ability Unlocked: Jumping

Fourth Titan (The Quaking Earth Titan):

  • Level Requirements: Level 44 and higher
  • Best Counters: Vulnerable to Water, Psychic, Grass, Flying, and Fairy-type Pokémon (Great Tusk); Water, Ground, and Fighting-type Pokémon (Iron Threads)
  • Ability Unlocked: Gliding

Depending if you own Scarlet or Violet, you must defeat the Great Tusk or Iron Threads to gain the ability to glide.

If you own Scarlet or Violet, you could face the Great Tusk (Scarlet) or Iron Treads (Violet). Therefore, the counters will differ; however, Fire-type attacks won't be effective against the Iron Treads.

Fifth Titan (Dondozo & Tatsugiri, False Dragon Titan):

  • Level Requirements: Level 55 and higher
  • Best Counters: Vulnerable to Grass and Electric-type Pokémon (Dondozo); Fairy and Dragon-type Pokémon (Tatsugiri)
  • Ability Unlocked: Climbing

With all Herba Mystica acquired, feed them to Koraidon or Miraidon before utilizing them all in your travels across Paldea. With the Titans defeated, return to the lighthouse towards the end of Poco Path, where you first met Arven, to begin the final battle against him. That's all we know about Koraidon and Miraidon's abilities.
