16th January 2023 Update: Niantic provided an update regarding the Mega Energy required to evolve to Mega Salamence from 200 to 300, which comes into effect after the Twinkling Fantasy event. We'll endeavor to provide more updates once more reliable information is available.
Pokémon GO Twinkling Fantasy – Event Dates & Times
The second major event for 2023, Twinkling Fantasy, will see Trainers being surrounded by Dragon and Fairy-type Pokémon, with some in-game debuts occurring. Players will have one week to engage in activities, with the event running from 10th January at 8 am until 16th January 2023 at 10 pm local time.
As mentioned, Mega Salamence will make its in-game debut during this event, with Trainers having a chance to encounter a Shiny Mega Salamence. A Collection Challenge and Field Research will also be available to complete for rewards before the event concludes.
Pokémon GO Twinkling Fantasy – Featured Pokémon
As stated above, Mega Salamence will be making its Pokémon GO debut with its Shiny form arriving for this event. Additionally, plenty of Dragon and Fairy-type Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild and Raid encounters with the chance of encountering their Shiny forms.
Lastly, Zekrom will be arriving in Pokémon GO as you can encounter it in upcoming five-star Raids and will be getting dedicated Raid Hour on 11th January 2023 between 6 pm and 7 pm local time. Should you catch Zekrom after defeating it in Raids between 10th and 18th January 2023 at 10 am local time, it will know the Fusion Bolt Charged Move.
Pokémon GO Twinkling Fantasy – Wild Encounters
Several Dragon and Fairy-type Pokémon, excluding Mega Salamence, will spawn more often in the wild for the event's duration. Likewise, there's a chance you can encounter Shiny forms* of these Pokémon which, if you're lucky, you could spot Goomy and Noibat during the event.

Trainers participating in this event and its activities can utilize the event bonuses that will be activated for the Twinkling Fantasy event. These bonuses see you earning more XP, Candy, and Candy XL if you meet the specific requirements outlined below:
- Double XP for catching Pokémon using Nice, Great and Excellent Throws
- Bonus Candy for catching Pokémon using Nice, Great and Excellent Throws
- Increase your chance to earn Candy XL from catching Pokémon for Trainers Level 31 and higher
