Trainers can ring in 2023 with their friends and Buddy Pokémon in the upcoming New Year's 2023 event for Pokémon GO. This is the third year Niantic will release a New Year-themed event that introduces a plethora of smartly dressed Pokémon for Trainers to encounter and add to their growing Pokédex.
In addition to new seasonal content and activities to participate in, new items are arriving in the in-game Shop, with more event bonuses to capitalize on. We've detailed all the event information for the Pokémon GO New Year's 2023 event, including its schedule, featured Pokémon, event bonuses, and more.
Pokémon GO New Year's 2023 – Dates & Times
Trainers can bid farewell to the year in-game as the New Year's 2023 celebratory event kicks off on 31st December 2022 at 8 pm local time. The event will be live for a limited time as the event will conclude on 4th January 2023 at 8 pm local time.
Experience the countdown and spectacular fireworks as there will be themed decor dazzling the map, Gyms, PokéStops, and the skies. So keep your eyes peeled for a new loading screen for Pokémon GO as we approach the New Year.
Pokémon GO New Year's 2023 – Featured Pokémon
With New Year-themed decor to help usher in 2023, you will encounter some snappy-looking Pokémon donning New Year's outfits. As such, Pikachu wearing a party top hat will make its in-game debuts in wild encounters with a possibility of a Shiny Pikachu you might encounter.
Likewise, Wurmple wearing a party hat will appear more throughout wild encounters for the event, alongside Hoothoot wearing a New Year's outfit. You may also spot Wurmple and Hoothoot in their Shiny forms during this event.
Additionally, Noctowl wearing a New Year's outfit will be debuting for the New Year's 2023 event but with a catch. As Hoothoot wearing a New Year's outfit will be spawning more frequently in wild encounters for the event, if you catch Hoothoot and evolve it, you will get Noctowl wearing a New Year's outfit.
Pokémon GO New Year's 2023 – Raid Encounters
The new year will bring forth new and challenging Raid Bosses to battle against in one, three, five, and Mega Raids. For some of these Raid encounters, there's also a chance these Pokémon will appear in their Shiny form* for the event's duration.
Let's look at all the Pokémon to be featured in Raid encounters for Pokémon GO's New Year's 2023 event:
One-star Raids:
- Bulbasaur wearing a party hat*
- Charmander wearing a party hat*
- Hoothoot wearing a New Year's outfit*
- Pikachu wearing a party top hat*
- Squirtle wearing a party hat*
Three-star Raids:
- Gengar wearing a party hat*
- Nidorino wearing a party hat*
- Raticate wearing a party hat*
- Wobbuffet wearing a party hat*
Five-star Raids:
- Reshiram*
Mega Raids:
- Mega Steelix*
As we'll provide more coverage on the Reshiram Raid encounter, the Legendary Dragon/Fire-type Pokémon will know the Charged Attack, Fusion Flare. This can only occur if you encounter and catch the Pokémon during the event through Raids.
Pokémon GO New Year's 2023 – Event Bonuses
Similarly to past Pokémon GO events, New Year's 2023 will have a handful of event bonuses that will be active for the event. These bonuses all pertain to egg hatching, so if you have received Eggs from the Winter Holiday and the New Year's 2023 events, this is the perfect opportunity to hatch them faster.
The event bonuses for Pokémon GO's New Year's 2023 event are as follows:
- Egg-hatching distances are halved when placed inside an Incubator during the event
- Egg hatching distances are decreased by a quarter (1/4) for the first three Eggs using the Pokémon GO Egg hatching widget
It's important to note that these bonuses will not stack, and the Egg hatching widget is available for iOS and Android devices. There will be 7 km Eggs will be available for this event which the following Pokémon can be hatched from with the chance of it being a Shiny*:
- Pichu wearing a party hat*
- Azurill*
- Cleffa*
- Elekid*
- Igglybuff*
- Magby*
- Smoochum*
- Togepi*
- Tyrogue*
- Wynaut*
Furthermore, Niantic outlined that a special Collection Challenge will be made available for the event in which completing its tasks earns you Stardust. Finally, Field Research tasks will be available as you can assist Professor Willow with his New Year's research and earn Stardust as a reward.
